I have had rather an evenful few days, you may remember I had to have a tooth extracted about a month ago due to an infection. Well, I now have another massive abscess and infection in my gums and jaw :( . It hurt like hell over the weekend and managed to see my dentist this morning. But because I am pregnant they can't do root canal treatment on it till after baby is born.

There is no reason not to do root fillings on pregnant ladies.

Dentists often don't like taking x-rays of pregnant people, but dental x-rays have been declared to be OK during pregnancy, as the dosage you're exposed to is probably about the same as a 4h plane trip - and who'd be afraid to go on an aeroplane during pregnancy for fear of the radiation?

Also, with modern equipment, the root filling can be done without x-rays (Using an apex locator to find the end of the root rather than an x-ray) and then take the check x-ray after the baby is born if you'd raher avoid it.

Personally, I'd have thought the untreated infection, the antibiotics and the painkillers would pose a bigger threat to the pregnancy than the treatment.

If you're VERY pregnant, themn it might be uncomfortable to be laying down in the chair for so long, but if you're that big, it probably won't be long before you're able to have the treatment anyway.
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.

  • Sorry ladies - no time to catch up at the moment but wanted to let you know how we went with the MW this morning.

We are both fine, Bubba is 3 fifths engaged (which means he has 2 fifths of his little head stuck in my pelvis!!). Movements are good and heartbeat is 'lovely'. BP is back up to normal 110/68.

We had a bit of a chat about the injection for the delivery of the placenta and apparently if you decide not to have it then they monitor you and discuss again at 30 mins anyway. Also, if you try to deliver it and you are struggling then you can ask for the injection at any time. So that is me decided...especially if I have a waterbirth, I don't want to be clambering straight out of the pool to get injected. I will say no injection immediately, to be reviewed regularly.

Hope everyone is well, ((HUGS)) to those that need them.

Feelie- buy the egg, it's fascinating and it isn't in any way related to the size of the baby!!

oh why does healthy food take so much longer to chew!
I've just had a scrummy "rainbow super salad" but it was full of lentil, pumpkin seeds etc and I'm used to my pot noodle that just slides down :rotfl:

    3onitsway - absolutely gorgeous!!

Nicki - bean is so tiny! so you are def 6+4? My little bean will be just a tad bigger than that - 8 weeks tomorrow :j. MW appt in T-7 days............

Chronic back ache today - can barely walk and when I do I feel like my legs are going to give way. Oh and OH has man flu! We will be a right pair tonight!
Being very good and not taking any painkillers!!

Sami - I am now spending every morning perched over the sink in the bathroom - retching and dry heaving until I can barely move, just bringing up loadsa spit. I find that as soon as I brush my teeth (once I've got the energy to put the toothpaste on the toothbrush and then lift it into my mouth) I feel much better. Works for me :rotfl:

feelie - glad you are feeling better today - I def want an egg. Why not go shopping and pretend you are buying for someone else's baby? If it gets too much you can always send OH like someone else suggested.
A very busy Yummy Mummy to a 1 year old gorgeous boy :smileyhea

    Does this work??

Finally, Violet pics for anyone not on the facebook group.

I feel a bit sad i'm not part of the pregnancy club any more!
And woke up looking for my bump this morning - forgetting she was in the moses basket next to me. :rotfl:

I'd best go and introduce myself on the parent club - but i'm going to have to keep popping in to see when babies are born.

I love the slave labour going on in the second one!! :rotfl: Is she a good little helper? Violet is lovely! Her outfit is so pretty. (my nana was a Violet, and if stardust is a girl, it will be her middle name)

    .

Thank you for this - I will ask next time I see the dentist about an "apex locator" rather than using an xray.
The dentist told me yesterday that xrays were a definate no-no in pregnancy (as I had thought myself) and that he would need to see the xray before doing root canal. I did ask what other ways there are around it while I was there, but TBH, the dentist didn't seem to care all that much and just wanted to get the next patient in.

The antibiotics are doing their job at the moment and the swelling has gone down slightly. But if I get anymore problems I will bear this in mind. Thank you again for this info, much appreciated. :)
