  • Phew! Thank goodness I found this site! WIV + clock + 6 samples offer received today!. I was tempted but decided to check it out first.

Pieroth eh!. I have been subjected to their products and selling before, neither impressed me.

Shredder here comes the WIV offer form I just completed! :)
  • :(Holy smoke! So glad I looked on this forum.
Got a call today from a lovely sounding chap asking if he could visit with my TableTop Weather something-or-other, and bring some wine samples.
I said he could call on Wednesday! Hope I can call him to cancel.
    Thank you Forum. xamberangel :T

I received some mail today, asking a few questions about my wine drinking habits and offering a free wall clock and 6 bottles of wine for responding.

The company is W.I.V, Dallow Road, Luton, Beds, LU1 1UR

It all looks pretty reasonable, and the WIV website (wiv-ag.com) looks professional.

Has anyone tried this before? My concern is that I will suddenly get a unrequested box of wine on a regular basis with a demand for payment.

However, if it as above board, I do enjoy my wine, especially if I can get 6 free bottles.

it is a samplerling of 6 wines, not 6 bottles, they want your phone number so they can ask when it will be convinient to come and see you with the wines, then they will let you taste them and let you know about the company.
its friendly and you can have friends round with you but its just a way of getting there product noticed by people like you who are unaware.
its good that you can taste the wine so your not buying blind and they taste REALLY nice
i used to work for them and i still use them for my personal supply

The basis is that the only positives i've heard about this company come from employees or one post wonders whilst everything else i hear about them is negative, both on this forum and out there in the real world. We've even had a revelation from the most vocal of supporters of this company that he was in fact talking nonsense and they are a terrible company.

thats because not everyone is scared about filling in abit of paper they need the internet to tell them if its ok or not, they turn over 20-30million a year with thousands of happy customers so why would the customers need to search for all the negative remarks online about a product they love.
you just stick to your 3 for £10 from asda and leave the finer things to the finer people

FYI Pieroth wine's are advertising for sales reps in the North East. They seem to advertise every couple of months and have been doing so for at least the past 2-3 years that I know of. I might be wrong but it strikes me that they must have a high turnover of staff. Ok maybe the job is rubbish or its too difficult to sell, then again it could be people leave once they find out it's some kind of scam. I just find it unusual to see the same company advertising month after month.

i'll tell you how it is

year one you get a basic of £880 per month and 12p per mile alowance plus 15% of what you sell, net.
you have to work through the £880 before the commision makes a difference, year 2 and on is just 15% or what you sell.
i've just left and i only left because the 12p milage was no where near as i was spending more than i was making. the reps i worked with are all top blokes and as nice as they come so i think the day of the hard sellers has gone, people make no money and leave.
also you dont just work your home town, you could travel 50-70miles to your first appointment so people leave because of that.

Thats good, they should not need to be so desperate they have to phone or pop round to people in order to sell their 20-30 Million a Year product, as they are sooooo good, word of mouth should be enough for them to secure custom. ;)

Likewise, I will stick to my Stella, (whom also are not desperate enough to call me for a few samples for some reason - oh yes popularity), ironically even Asda dont feel the need to call or pop round with their cheap 3 for £10 deals, still, I cant imagine why that is - oh yes, popularity. I guess not every company is scared enough to feel they need to phone people up, or offer free samples of their plonk in order to secure a sale.

Think I will stick to those companies that don't need to promote themselves via a phonecall or a visit, you know like Stella,Carling, Champagne, Baileys, Smirnoff, Jack Daniels or indeed those cheap 3 for a tenner bottles of wine, from those stores that ALSO dont need to promote themselves by popping round or phoning me up, like Asda, Tesco, Sainsburys, Victoria Wine, Lidl or Aldi. I guess they are popular enough by word of mouth to feel the need to. ;) No fear there!!

I guess that is because not everyone is gullible enough to fill in that piece of paper, securing some contract or paying over the odds for some cheap plonk, choosing as it were, to take that risk in venturing outside and "choosing" which bottle to buy, where to buy it from and how much they are willing to pay for it.

Those gullible ones are probably too scared to take such a risk ;), or they are far too busy searching for negative remarks on the internet, in a failed attempt at trying to convince others that its liquid gold.

Does anyone know what wines they sell? I could have a search on google then to see what they are like, just out of interest.
Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.
  • I recently had the salesperson round to conduct the wine tasting that was a condition for the gift of some coffee mugs. Several of the wines were good so we ordered some. Unfortunately did not make the time to find this site before the tasting and could only check the actual wines on the web after ordering. I found no reference to one brand and the other, a Tertre De Launay blanc appears to have been priced at about twice the price that it was advertised for on a USA site.
A previous post was probably correct - that some would like the convenience of tasting and ordering. Caveat emptor!

It's not a question of desperation or the popularity of the company.

There are many ways of selling a product like wine, and Pieroth employ this particular method. The trouble with this way of doing things is that the overheads involved in selling small quantities are huge compared with normal retailing,

Result? Their wines are very poor value for money, and they seem to rely on ignorance to get the sale. From reading this thread, I can imagine some of the ludicrous claims made. No hangovers indeed!

I worked in the wine trade in the 80s, and Pieroth had a bad name then.

While we're at it, I also think that Laithwaites aka Sunday Times Wine Club are overpriced, though this is partly balanced by some of the excellent special offers they run.

If you know your stuff, but aren't looking for anything too exclusive, it's hard to beat the big supermarkets. Waitrose in particular are excellent. Oddbins and Majestic are best among the big specialist chains, with knowledgeable staff and interesting ranges.

    Avoid Pieroth.

Personally I would avoid any company that feels the need to pop up in a forum, cunningly disguised as some satisfied customer (quite shabbily I might add), with the attempt of trying so unsuccessfully to bad mouth other forum members who happen to be dissatisfied with the product and the promotion methods used.

Rather than simply saying "actually...I like the stuff", you can and will NEVER get a positive opinion by using a negative one, no matter what the intention, all this feeble attempt does is merely amplifies the negative opinions, and puts even more potential victim.....I mean customers off. ;)
