WIV offer is a cover to collect your information for alpha debt collection. My neighbour sent the offer away and 2 weeks later he had someone at his door about a debt from a few years back that he was protected form by a scottish trust deed. the company claimed they could still chase him for this old debt and that he had comfirmed he still lives at the address they had by filling in a false survey the sent him. So if you have debts look out they are after you. How did they get your detail in ther first place?????????.
ever heard of coincidence!! your nieghbour had a debt and eventually people turned up - WIV got his details in the same way all unsolicited mail and call companies get details.Dogs return to eat their vomit, just as fools repeat their foolishness. There is no more hope for a fool than for someone who says, "i am really clever!"0 -
my thanks to all contributers to this discussion - I rec'd. the WIV offer of weather station etc. recently and suspected it wasn't exactly what it implied (it does look like something for nothing and we all know about that but sometimes are tempted)
Anyhow I thought I'd try googling WIV and quickly found MoneySavingExpert and found out what I was missing in the offer. MSE is now on my bookmarks so actually the WIV offer was good for me!!0 -

PS to the above (no axe to grind) I've been buying ex Laithwaites for the past year and been pleased but now my son-in-law is recommending Waitrose and I'll probably give them a go. I also buy from Donald Russell when I want some really good meat (which it certainly is but in my view VERY expensive)0

I have been receiving wine for years from this company and they are legit. All they do is ring me when I tell them to and if I want to place an order I do and if not they don't mind.. They are quite relaxed about payment and I have never had bad wine off them ever!! The only thing is the are quite expensive and so I can't order that often but well worth the wait when I can.:beer:0

I'm still waiting for Stella Artois to offer the same kind of promotion, I will happily invite them round and have no problem filling my house with enough friends to make it a worthwhile party event (even with plastic beakers), however it is my guess the likes of Stella are far too popular to need to offer samples to promote themselves.
If I have some sudden urge to buy a bottle of plonk, akin to Stella, I don't need a phonecall from some company to make an order, much like the majority of people, I would pop round to my local Victoria Wine shop, or Aldi's, where the price is much cheaper, the quality much better, and sold in abundance without the need of a house warming promo or a quick phonecall.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

I'm in Ireland and just got one of the 'too good to be true' mailers last week. After googling wiv I found you guys, so am very greatful for all the comments. Now at least I know how the sales trail works! (The offer over here, by the way, is a digital barometer and weather thingy.)
Thanks everyone!

I received some mail today, asking a few questions about my wine drinking habits and offering a free wall clock and 6 bottles of wine for responding.
The company is W.I.V, Dallow Road, Luton, Beds, LU1 1UR
It all looks pretty reasonable, and the WIV website (wiv-ag.com) looks professional.
Has anyone tried this before? My concern is that I will suddenly get a unrequested box of wine on a regular basis with a demand for payment.
However, if it as above board, I do enjoy my wine, especially if I can get 6 free bottles.
W I V... WOW.
I am so pleased I visited your forum. I too thought it sounded good but wondered what was the catch...free wine tasting AND a free gift.
I noticed one of your members said it was Pieroth who were the base company AAAAAGH.
We used to get wine from Pieroth which was beautiful but quite expensive but the phone calls got more and more frequent until we were getting at least one a day despite asking repeatedly for them not to call, originally for 2 months and eventually not at all. The only way we got them to stop was by contacting head office and threatening legal action. It was extremely traumatic. Even after head office had told them to stop they did still ring a few times but being abusive or putting them on hold for a long time helped and they have finally gone away0 -
Having received the letter today I did a quick google for WIV and it brought me here. I'm involved professionally in wine (thought not in buying or selling it) and had no interest in what looked like your typical junk mail marketing, but wanted to know more about it, hence the googling. Not surprised in the slightest to hear Pieroth is behind this. They are a company which specialises in direct selling of wines in people's homes or workplaces, and have done so for decades. Basically, some of the wines are OK, but all are vastly overpriced (50% more expensive than they should be, and 50% more than similar quality wines elsewhere), but I guess some people like this method of buying. I've never been a customer so do not know about the 'high pressure' tactics, but then in my experience almost all direct selling book, CD, DVD-type 'clubs' are pretty much high pressure, so I'd avoid if you don't fancy that. Many other wine merchants and societies have regular purchase plans and would be worth comparing before being tempted by the free clock and 'free' wine tasting.
I have no commercial connection to any wine selling business.0 -
There are wine scams out there, usually relating to investing where companies buy names of investors in penny stocks and bombard them with junk mail.
WIV is not in that league and is not a scam.
Personally I find their wine overpriced and find some of the astroturfing in the thread comical. WIV are not a bad organisation and some of the wine is decent however there are better out there. Sunday Times/Virgin etc etc.
What I would avoid is Winebanks where companies take a sum off you every month to be held against future purchases. Better off keeping the money in your account."There's no such thing as Macra. Macra do not exist."
"I could play all day in my Green Cathedral".
"The Centuries that divide me shall be undone."
