Has anyone got a recipe for vegan oatcakes - The Staffordshire kind - not the Scottish ones?

    Ta!

There is a recipe on parsleysoup.co.uk.

I've got about 100 posts to catch up on. Our new computer crashed on Sunday and we've only just got it back from a friend. He's managed to get it going again, but I don't know how to retrieve everything on it. Looks like DH is going to have to take it to a colleague at work to do that for us.

Thanks for all the lasagne tips. I managed to finally get to H&B and GNC today and have got lots of goodies. I've just tried a cheezly salad roll and a tofutti herb and chives salad roll, they were both lovely . I also got a powdered vegan cheese sauce, I wish I'd checked on here first and seen the tip about the white sauce and nutritional flakes (which I also got) but it wont go to waste. I even treated myself to a tofutti soya chocolate frozen dessert :D
Murrell your blogs great, lots of good info there, I've saved it in my favs and will check it often.

Please try Soya Glace, £1.80 in Sainsbury's. You will never go back to Tofutti ;)

Sweedish glace. The only tofutti dairy free icecream I've tried is the rock and roll one and the cone that is the same and they were very nice. Most of the pots of toffuti dairy free ice-cream are organic but sweedish glace ones are not. For some people this will be a factor in which one they buy.

  • Not sure if you have seen this:

    http://www.sainsburys.co.uk/NR/rdonlyres/09A77E7C-05BF-48CA-9302-96FD8089E578/0/Vegetarian_06_2008.pdf

Hope the link works. It's a list of all the Sainsburys own brand food that is vegan friendly (the vegan stuff starts on page 94). Sainsburys toiletries and household cleaners etc are also vegan friendly which is great. Mmmmm strawberry laces :j

    Yay for Sainsburys :T

Hey Sparklewing, a high five for joining the forum  If you check back you'll see that everyone on here is either at various stages of veganism (I only began on Jan 1st), vegetarianism or just like the idea of veggie food etc. so I have found it to be a great source of TLC.

Hopefully we're all feeling the benefits money-wise and have gained a good sense of wellbeing <meditates while thinking of chocolate>

Thanks for the Sainsbury's info, that's where I do my shopping. My Vegan Friend (she inspired me many years ago to take an interest in veganis,) says she does find she has to buy bits and bobs from different places, but I guess it's all down to what we're after really. I have a local Tesco that has a much better 'free from' range than my local S, but I don't normally have the time for shopping in different places.

The Animal Free Shopper is excellent but I've found it handy to Google either the products or shops/companies I use most frequently to check up on info. AFS I find concentrates on pro-vegan companies - clearly an excellent thing as I certainly want to support those companies more - but sometimes you just need to know whether Tesco own branflakes or whatever are suitable.

In other news, I made sweetcorn chowder tonight - am positive it was from this forum so thank you to the lovely person who put it on there. I'm on soft foods after a jaw operation, so I need all the softness I can get! It did dinner, and either lunch tomorrow or perhaps with a tortilla and a beer tomorrow night.....

Went into Lidl's today only to pick up loo roll....but came across soya milk and chocolate soya milk. All seems okay with it, will let you know how it tastes. Wasn't much cheaper than Alpro one I get in Sainsbury's but I walked there and back so the trip was overall a cheap one (if you ignore the cereal and loaf of bread I bought as well).

Sorry, have got soya on the brain :o I'm so in love with it. I never had 'normal' ice cream much as it didn't agree with my gut, so am glad I've found something which hits the spot. I've only tried chocolate Tofutti so maybe I should give other flavours a chance

  • Alpro and provemel are owned by the same company "Alpro soya” part of the Vandemoortele group. The only difference to the product is that the provemel part of the company is 100% organic. On the other hand only a few products of alpro are organic. To my knowledge provemel are only sold in health food stores.

I wondered if that was the case, as the packaging is so similar. But just thought that might be the same as rival magazines practically looking like copies of one another.

    Yeah this site http://www.vandemoortele.com/ENG/divisions/products/soya.asp
links to www.alprosoya.com and www.provamel.com as it's the same really with a few differences. A lot of people don't realise this.

This is stated - 'Are Provamel and Alpro soya the same company?
Both Provamel and Alpro are owned by the same company “Alpro soya” part of the Vandemoortele group. The main distinction between the two brands is that Provamel is 100% organic whilst only a few products within the Alpro range can make this claim. Provamel products are also designed specifically with the Healthfood store in mind; dairy free, low in saturated fat, naturally containing omega 3 and 6 and with no artificial, colourings, preservatives, sweeteners or flavourings Provamel soya products taste as pure as nature intended.'

fruit for snacks again, almonds and dried fruit
(not bought yoghurts or milk yet so lacking in calcium but I'm sure one weekend won't matter too much). Going to go and buy the Seven Seas vegan supplement too.

Almonds are a good source of calcium, as are green leafy veg, fortified milks or other products, tahini, sesame seeds and lot's of other things too! It doesn't have to be in fake dairy form :D

Me and DD start our day with porridge, made with fortified oat milk, and tahini, with raisins and banana added. Yummy, and gives most of our RDA of calcium.

Also remember if you buy organic milks they are not fortified as these cannot get organic certification.

Kim-ley- The mooncup really isn't as scary as it looks. I've used it for a few years. It's not as bad as non applicator tampons IME I have found it much more comfortable than any other product I have ever used (as long as you trim the stalk! Ouchie!) Also found that period cramps are reduced. Which I don't understand, how that works? But def a bonus! :D I need to buy a new one though as have now had DD.

Another TMI topic, but condoms? Do you buy vegan or not? Personally I don't bother, but we all draw our own lines.
