RecoveringSpendaholic told me yesterday that Fry's Chocolate Cream is suitable for us :j I didn't know that. I knew that After Eights were suitable too but it's nice to find out other easily availble treats that are suitable. Anyone know of any other 'everyday' goodies that are?Say it once, say it loud ~ I'm an Atheist, Anti-Royalist, Socialist, Tea-Total Veggie Frog and PROUD!:D

Not sure if you have seen this:

Hope the link works. It's a list of all the Sainsburys own brand food that is vegan friendly (the vegan stuff starts on page 94). Sainsburys toiletries and household cleaners etc are also vegan friendly which is great. Mmmmm strawberry laces :j
Yay for Sainsburys :T0 -

Sparklewing The Animal free shopper book, which you can buy from the vegan society (if you can get on their site  ) has lists of vegan products. It has food, drink, toiletries clothes etc and is about £4.99 I think. It makes life a bit easier.Real stupidity beats artificial intelligence every time.

I'm not having any trouble with the vegan society site today so no idea what is going on. I did this to help those that can't get on for the E numbers. It's amazing what could be in your food or drink  .
Hope that helps you.I am a vegan woman. My OH is a lovely omni guy0 -
Hi, I'm vegan too. Haven't read through the whole thread but just wanted to say, veganism can be very frugal if you go lightly on the specialist meat substitutes etc and base your diet mainly on grains, pulses, fruit and veg.
You will get lots of people asking about protein but there is no need to worry about protein intake at all if you are getting enough calories. Potatoes all on their own contain enough protein to meet all your needs!
This is a very useful site. Dr McDougall has advocated a vegan diet for decades for health reasons. This links to a forum on his website where nutritionist Jeff Novick answers queries about nutritional issues in a great deal of detail.0 -
It was my firewall, I turned it off and had no problems.
Thanks for the E numbers list, thank goodness for the vegan sunflower logo, I will just look out for that when Im shopping, it'll be much easier tha trying to remember all of the E numbersReal stupidity beats artificial intelligence every time.

I'm ridiculously excited about being a new vegan. I always get extremely 'into' my thing of the moment. I was the same when I first became vegetarian (I don't mean I'll give up or it's a passing fad but just that I get totally immersed in reading and discussing everything for a while).
I think I'll find the food side of being vegan fairly easy. As long as I can have salad cream (yay Sainsburys again) and Vegemite then I'm happy.
I'm going to find the toiletries side of things REALLY hard though. Since I stopped smoking my thing has been buying lovely lovely toiletries and cosmetics and pampering myself. But I'm pretty sure the majority, if not all, of my toiletries are not vegan.:(
It's taken me years to find a hairdye I like and it's on the Bad list at the vegan society. My hair is almost totally white so the Henna dyes from Lush wouldn't work I don't think as I'd end up with bright red roots where the white hair is. I have a years supply of my dye in the bathroom (it was on special offer) so have a year to hope someone comes up with an excellent chocolatey brown permanent, grey covering dye. (Seen a few vegan dyes but the colours aren't great and going natural isn't an option as I'm only 27).
I also have psoarisis on my scalp so use t-gel once a week (also a no-no in vegan world). nothing else I've tried (and believe me I've tried a lot) works and it's gets so bad I scratch til I bleed. Anyone know of a vegan frendly alternative? Normal Head & Shoulders type shampoos don't work.
I've got like a years worth of all my toiletries so got plenty time to find alternatives but I think the food side is definitely the easy bit.:rolleyes:0 -
Me again sorry, last post for a while I promise.
Just wondering what do you do about medication? One of my prescribed medications is in capsule form and contains gelatine and the other is manufactured by Proctor & Gamble. I'm presuming that if I ask the doctor for vegan alternatives they'll tell me to !!!! off? Or am I being unecesarily harsh on doctors?0
