Try making your own bread and rolls and using the pumpkin and sesame seeds on top of the bread or in it.

That would use up the strong flour , yeast and seeds.

Makes about 60; I used only half of all the ingredients, and it still made loads.
    225g/8oz/1 cup butter
    225g/8oz/1 cup caster sugar
    1 egg
    15ml/1 tbsp single cream
    300g/11oz/2 2/3 cups plain flour
    pinch of salt
    1 tsp baking powder
    15ml/1 tbsp rosewater
Soften the butter and mix with all the other ingredients to make a firm dough.
Mould the dough into an even roll and wrap in greaseproof paper.
Chill for one to two hours until it's firm enough to slice very thinly. (Alternatively, roll out and use normal round pastry cutters).
Arrange on baking sheets, leaving lots of space for each one to spread and cook for about 10 minutes at 190°C/375°F/Gas mark 5 till they're just starting to turn brown at the edges.

That uses up a fraction of your orange flower water (which must be similar to the rose water...)

First look up some charity fund raising coffee morning, then offer them your sausage rolls (cooked just before the opening) and biscuits and apple jelly.

Can't possibly just throw things away (except possibly the Thai fish sauce which must be horrible by now).

My problem is visiting family wanting exotic chutneys, using a teaspoon of them and going away. I have shelve fulls of them.

Steam the fish and scallops, drown in squeezed lemon, and eat with the rice.

Make a soup out of the soup mix and the grated carrot.
  • interesting about the use before date - they should do that here.

I didn't think I had much to use up until I started reading this thread. Sympathise with those who went through brief Gillian McKeith phases...what can I make with quinoa? I made a sort of porridge once but found it quite revolting (and I'm known for eating almost anything)

  • Mum wanted to know if I wanted one of her big frying pans as they are too heavy for her to lift now. I almost said yes, but as I have 6 in my cupboards (2 of which are just fit for the bin if truth be known) I resisted and said no thanks :D

I've had a root round in my cupboards/freezer and this is what I need to use up:

    - 75 frozen sausage rolls (it's only me at home and I don't even like sausage rolls....)?!

why not remove the pastry, you can whiz that through a food processor or coffee grinder to make posh bread crumbs and the sausages can then be used up in stew or sausage and mash etc

    ?!

    - packet of sunflower seeds (bought to go in salads, but I didn't really like the texture of the raw seeds)
    ?!

you can grind them up in the food processor/coffee grinder and add them to museli or baking mmmmmm

    ?!
    - endless packets of dried instant yeast (must have had something to do with the flour!)?!

store these in the fridge, they'll keep for 5 years, 10 years if you store them in an airtight container in the freezer

    ?!

    - jar of apple jelly with sage (a present; not opened because I don't know what to do with it)
    - unopened packet of pumpkin seeds (how did that get into my kitchen???)?!

apple jelly, use with pork very tasty

sunflower seeds, treat as above with sunflower seeds

  • wooohooo down to just 3 boxes of cereal in the cupboard from 8, made dd eat them up there wasn't a great deal left in any of the boxes so i'm glad they are out the way. have used up the end of 3 half drunk bottles of juice that have been there for ages, also using up all small bottles of shampoo and shower gel etc, got rid of two more last night in the shower, everywhere is looking much much tidier. this is the best idea i've known in ages. has made me realise how much stuff i hoard i hadn't realised. anyone any tips on how to get through 8 boxes of 80 teabags by the end of the month?? lol.
