    Evening...

Late post as been busy today, cleaned my kitchen and re-assembled my dining room as was still set up for valentines meal (managed to hoover up all the heart confetti! yay! :j) Also cleaned & tidied the living room and cleaned the bathroom! :)

Have managed to snap the leg on my coffee table in 1/2 though! :( Its only a £9.99 one from Argos so not TOO bad... but i still cant afford to replace it at the min as the next cheapest one in price (no point getting same one again as it is rubbish) is £18.99!!! Really not happy as i use it loads Something else to add to the "when i get a job i need... " list which is now the length of my arm...!!

Spending tonight watching tv and going through OHs jobseekers forms and things with him... poor pet is dyslexic and although he hasnt said i realised quite recently when hes been forced to read stuff infront of me and write (which hed never done before) that he really really struggles.. so i offered in a non-obvious/pushy/offensive way to help fill the forms cos i "know how pesky them forms are and am more used to filling them out than you" ;) Cos i know if i dont help him he'll put it off and off like he has.. which has ended in him NOT getting his claim sorted since dec 5th  and also with debt collection agencies threatening court action cos he couldnt read and understand the letters from them properly! :( Hopefully get him all sorted and we should be on the way to things getting back to normal soon! :)

breakfast - wholemeal toast with peanut butter
lunch - jacket potato with coselaw and homemade veggie soup! (yum!)
Tea - plaice fillet in breadcrumbs and homemade chips

    Evening all!

Again, a good day at work, very quiet though and came home to boyf  the little :A that he is, beavering away with the hoover, had done the dishes and changed cat litters etc, and then went off to buy more steak  for dinner, which he is currently cooking. :happyhear Im loving the new man about house!

Thank you for appreciating my purchase of a new toy - I must admit, I did some hunting and went with it even though I didnt intend to spend that much, but ive come to the conclusion that quality counts and I wont have to buy one again (at least for a long time!) so its a good investment. Im looking forward to it, as is boyf who intends to learn the art of curries and will be using it too!

Anyway, im off, dinner is ready and it looks awesome!

Hello everyone, thanks for my greetings from my *OS Heros* - after yesterday's split lid coffee triumph, I thought I'd top it by applying for a loan through Quidco/Allicance & Leicester...what a waste of time! They wanted an enormous interest rate and it wasn't worth the money Quidco would give me for taking it out...grrr. That'll learn me for trying to be too clever!

I was a bit OS though, took back some hair straighteners I've had for 2 months to Boots as I've only used them 2x and they're not very good - called Boots customer care to check I could return them as there's no 28-day period on the receipt. I then bought some far better straighteners which I've just tested for the same money in Argos, so had a no-spend day.

Oops that bit should be on the debt-free wannabee shouldn't it. I'm new, don't slap me!!

Bit late today - really weary - been looking after DGS (12yo) and my son-in-law's Guide Dog while DD went with him (DSIL) to his appointment at Moorfields Eye Hosp. He couldn't take the dog as she hasn't been trained in London so has never been on the Tube!

Anyway, DD thought it would be really fun for DGS and me to make a cake together to help pass the time... So I took the ingredients along to save her having to buy them. She has a set of digital scales, so she had to show me how to use them - then she gave them a quick wash as they are used to weigh out the dog's food. I then said "Don't forget we'll want to use the mixer!" It turned out she hadn't used the mixer since moving house last July because she hadn't made a cake since then. She says they "always sink in the middle" so she's stopped bothering. The mixer was nowhere to be found, so I said "Not to worry, I'll teach him how to do it with a wooden spoon." So after I'd watched "Neighbours", into the kitchen we went, opened up the new bag of flour and the tin of cocoa and the caster sugar....then found the digital scales wouldn't work as some water had got into them when DD slopped a wet sponge over the base unit!

Luckily I'd brought my trusty big spoon with me which I always use to put flour etc into the scales, and my Mum used to have one about the same size and I remembered her saying that a heaped spoonful of flour from her big spoon was about an ounce...so we decided we'd use 4 heaped spoons of flour, 4 rounded ones of caster sugar, one rounded one of cocoa - and luckily the marge tub was marked in blocks of 3 1/2 ounces along the side so we used one-and-a-bit sections of that, lucky we could manage without weighing the eggs! The cake turned out fairly reasonable considering all the guesswork, though DGS wasn't sure he liked it as he's used to bought chocolate cake! So I told him he must come round soon and we'll have another go, this time using scales and mixer! :D

QUIET DAY IN ORDER TOMORROW I THINK!

Frey sorry to hear about the shop! It really seems as if it isn't the right place for you. Hope something suitable turns up soon.

    MATH Sorry to mention cocoa....

Funky Fairy Thinking of your little nephew; as another poster said, he should quickly improve now he's getting the extra help he needs (((HUGS))) BTW I hope you're feeling better.

Bargain Rzl - yes, it would be nice to get together sometime - the cafe in the Broadway is nice. I met a friend in Starbuck's not long ago - I hadn't seen her for ages and we were looking forward to catching up, but had pop music blasted at us from all sides! I'm old enough to be your Mum but we seem to have common ground!

P-P Hope it was nice to get back to your own home and that your visit wasn't too exhausting! Any news on the stairlift? I bet your DD will want to spend all day riding up and down!

Newbies Hi all, welcome to the daily thread!

    best wishes

I'm still fairly new but welcome recoveringspendaholic and kittikins btw good bargain with the coffee yesterday. :)

Had a quiet afternoon and evening, dried 3 loads on the line and put 2 towel loads in WM with vinegar instead of softner (thank goodness they don't need ironing). Munch had a major growth spurt today, she was really grumpy at lunch time and very willing to have an afternoon sleep (she dropped her daytime sleep just before Christmas, shes 2 years old) she slept for about an hour and a half (I had a 45 minute snooze oopps). When we gave her a bath this evening I noticed that she was taller than the bathroom sink by quite a bit  :p very scary in a good way can't believe my little girl is growing up so quickly.

Beef stew courtesy of SC was nice but do need to find some new sc cookbooks as I only cook about 3 recipes in SC at the moment, I have about 20 cookbooks I use but only 1 sc cookbook and one of my friends has borrowed that. Haven't done my online shopping yet don't think I'll do it this evening now as I haven't planned next weeks meals yet.

Right think I'm going to read through the introduction thread as I haven't done that yet....night everyone

Made some muffins today. This is the third lot I have tried and they look nice, smell nice, but the taste is a bit lacking. Maybe I am comparing them with shop made ones with lots of artificial stuff in them? I used posh vanilla extract. I have used 3 slightly different recipes as well.

High drama this morning when our kitchen sink got completely blocked. Soda crystals etc wouldn't work so we had to buy a drain rod. Worked though. Have poured soda crystals down the bath and bathroom sink as a preventative measure. :grinheart

Paid my car tax online. There was a £2.50 fee to do so but I thought it was money well spent. Will save me queuing at the PO in my lunchbreak and spending lots of money on the way back to work... I had the money saved up in my ING car account but I *think* I have enough money left in my current account to cover it. Haven't spent much this month.

I have the whole weekend off work and am planning on doing lots of studying. Next weeks e tutorial is on the planisphere, and I hope it is going to be interesting seeing as it will be about the observational side of Astronomy. This weeks was on Solar stuff and got me thinking hard which makes a change.

Had horrible dry skin on my hands and the knuckles were cracking. Have been using Aqueous Cream on them for the past few days, as suggested bys omeone on an OS thread and it seems to be working. <touch wood>

Hugs to those who need them. :heartpuls

graham! what are you doing up now for??? get to bed! (and yes, i knoooow I can hardly speak, as I'm still WIDE awake, but I have an excuse, I have an essay to hand in in 11 and a half hours, so HAVE to pull an all-nighter to get this one done...no lectures tomorrow so its ok, i can sleep during the day)

OS-wise for the past few days...not much! have *really* let things slide, after all my good intentions at the end of last week. However, batch-cooking will be happening either today (friday) or saturday..or maybe sunday, im not sure. But, it WILL be done, and i can have nice food for a week, rather than just baked tato every night like this week has been.

so, yes, essay-avoidance from me here, 'identify three distinct research fields, summarise the currently available literature on these problems and indicate the avenues that future research might take' (for those of you are interested...all none of you, lol). Am around 2400 words in at the mo, have to get to 3000 ish, so shouldnt be tooooo bad, its just that the E-numbers are beginning to wear off now and beginning to get sick of it all!
Also have a hydrological systems essay for tomrrow, but that only needs proof-reading, and then a trip up to campus to hand them both in tomorrow.

Hope everyone had a good thursday (not going to pretend I read todays thread), and hope today is ok for you all....hugs to all those who need them.

funkyfairy, hope nephew (charlie??) is ok.

    laters!
