I'm hopping mad! Ordered three pairs of Skechers shoes online in size 5, having tried a different style in size 5 in store that fitted. Had to pay (by means of a £5 voucher) for delivery to store which I thought was pretty unreasonable.

When I collected them I tried them on and all three were too big. I went online and ordered one more size 4 pair that luckily fit although I'm now lumbered with yet another £5 voucher!

The store told me they didn't give refunds, only credit notes and that if I wanted to return them I would have to send them (by special delivery if I didn't want to risk losing them) at my cost. The store manager provided me with a phone no. to ring for free returns but when I phoned it a disinterested man told me there were no free returns and to follow the instructions on the delivery slip.

Overall an innocent purchase has cost me dearly. I would say it's a warning not to order shoes online or anything else unless you're sure it fits. I stupidly didn't read the Ts & Cs as I presumed all the big high street stores have the facility to return to store for free refunds.

I'm off to research a cheap courier company!!

Well your size issue is with Sketchers.
Their returns T&CS are on their site.so....
The returned goods do not need to be in their original packaging however they need to be in a sellable condition. Return postage is at your own cost

I knew this would be pointed out but I'm used to dealing with generous high street stores not SD. People have busy lives and live by their mistakes by not reading T&Cs, especially when using a smartphone.

All shoe sizes vary slightly even with branded shoes. This is why I will no longer order shoes online unless they have a method for free return.

and thus your post is pointless.
This thread existed before you purchased. These 'busy' people shall continue to buy

    A wise decision.

I have never ever considered purchasing shoes without actually trying on the very pair I was intending to buy.
I also rule out any sort of distance purchase of shoes as I cannot be bothered with the hassle, and possible cost, of returning unsuitable items.

It's not really an 'innocent purchase' that has cost you dearly.

It's the 'lack of research into SD's returns policy' that has cost you dearly.

You 'assumed' that returns policy that other stores offer also applied to SD.

I've ordered quite a few things from SD online - but only after checking out how I would return something that didn't fit/I wasn't happy with.

I too ordered a pair of Skechers but unlike you I tried on the same style (as opposed to a different style) just in a different colourway.

The excercise leggings & tops I ordered, I'd tried them on in store in a different colour.

Regardless of your experiences with other stores - either online or in store - you have learned that it's important to check t&cs regardless of how busy your life is.

SD are cheap because they do the bare minimum required by law, most staff on 0 hour contracts, so don't give a sh*t. If you want top CS with a company who will see your situation resolved with no cost to yourself, spend a little more and buy from Amazon, sell the voucher on ebay to some mug who doesn't know any better.

I was looking to buy a pair of bowls shoes, this outfit had what I wanted for £20, trouble was my local branch had no stock. I asked if they could order me a pair and they said yes, however I would have to pay £4.99 extra! Now home delivery is £4.99 but why should it be the same for shop pickup, everyone else provides this service for free. I then asked if their system could tell me the nearest branch with stock, but surprise, surprise - turns out NOT 1 BRANCH IN THE UK actually stocks this item, its only available to order from the warehouse. I told them where to go!

Most companies like SD run different warehouses for online and stores - and if they're in the same warehouse then they are separate and will remain so, for many reasons including stock levels and such like.

The main reason I would say for your problem is that bowl shoes are not a big seller so they would be just taking up display and storage in in the shop so tto prevent that and have more items on view that they can sell quickly they keep them in their online only warehouse.
