As Car boot season isn't fully underway yet (at least not round my way its not) try house clearance auctions.
About 18 months ago I bought a load of photographic darkroom equipment for £1 (£1.18 inc auction fee!!). There must have been at least 30 items there which i sold for at least £3-4 per item.
As well as that there was a record player stylus in the lot. Brand new and wrapped in the box. There were none of the same for sale on eBay nor in the completed listings so i just stuck it down as a 99p starting bid. 7 days later it sold for £180.
Not been as lucky since but still had a few items that have surprised me.
Lucky so-and-so! We don't seem to get house clearance auctions in my area.

    Soo
If you're going to sell it, I think you should either do so now (before too many more people change over completely to digital) or leave it up there for about 30-40 years till it gets rare and antiquey! For the latter option, check storage conditions (e.g. it won't like damp or very dry conditions) and twiddle with any moving parts every so often so it doesn't stick.
  • Hello all.

I had a look round my local charity shop today, didn't find much but I did find one of them BIG polly pocket things, a really really big polly pocket.

It was about £4, and was pink. Does anyone know how much these are worth or what the proper name is for one as I am unable to find one on eBay.
  • Thank you everyone for your lovely comments about the thread and I see some of you are doing well!!

I must apologise for my lack of input on this thread, problems with family members being poorly, so I haven't had chance yet to descend on the boot sale. I will though and I am loving reading all your stories.

    February Grocery Challenge £250.00

Spend so far £230!! (Ohhh my days HELP) still got almost 2 weeks left!!
  • Great challenge :)

Car boots are how I got started on eBay - best find was a 3 CD early music box set, especially put together for a corporate gift and including some performances by the Academy of Ancient Music not released anywhere else. I bought the set for £2, listed the three discs separately and they sold for about £12 each.

You can also play the game on ebay itself - best buy so far is three comics from ebay.com, $1.50 each plus $10 shipping, sold for £36 on ebay.co.uk.

    Hello

I am thinking of taking part in the challenge, just wanted a bit of advice. When you list your item do you start it at a very low price and hope someone bids for it, or do you start at the price you want. Im not sure what to do, my nerves might not take selling things for 99p lol.

    Thanks

    Cazzie
  • I usually start at a low price (commonly 99p), but the start price is never less than I'd be willing to sell for. If it's something I've bought to sell, my starting price will often be just a little more than the price I paid for the item plus eBay fees, then if I only get one bid I'll be disappointed, but not out of pocket.
I was very pleased with a recent purchase - Vogue Knitting Book Autumn 1947, bought for 20p, sold for £24.
If you do start at a low price, don't worry if there are no bids until near the end of the auction - that's fairly normal.

    Hi

I usually start it at the lowest price i am prepared to take for it, wether thats 99p or 4.99 depends on what you will let the item go for
