  • I picked the wrong item for the challenge! My Pierre Cardin handbag went for £7! Here's what I paid for my jumble sale items again:

Vintage beret (chosen challenge item) 20p
    Vintage Pierre Cardin bag 20p
    Vintage small evening bag/purse 20p
    Shellys shoulder bag 20p
    Vintage Jaeger blouse 10p
Vintage Dandi by Berkertex dress 10p
Riding hat, boots and whip £1.00

    Total £2.00

    Sold for:

    Vintage beret (see above) £1.99
    Vintage Pierre Cardin bag £7.00
    Vintage small evening bag/purse 75p
    Shellys shoulder bag 75p
Vintage Jaeger blouse - unsold (might try again!)
Vintage Dandi by Berkertex dress 75p
    Riding hat 99p
    Riding boots 1.99
Riding whip 50p (unsold on ebay but sold privately to a friend)

    Total £14.72

I'm hoping to get to a boot sale this weekend, too. Our local one has been away for a while after being closed down due to too many counterfeit goods.
I'm back after a break :money:

 They closed the whole car boot sale? That's a bit extreme! I was at one last year while the police carried out a major bust and confiscated thousands of pirate DVDs and stuff. There were no pirate or counterfeit stalls at the next one, but still plenty of other stalls.
  • I want to try this buying from car boots and selling on eBay but i wouldnt have a clue what to buy :(

The best tip I could give you to start with would be buy things what you really like, can describe well in detail. Also, don't be greedy with the ebay start price. If you can , start the auction off at what you paid for the item in the first place plus estimated costs, then you don't really lose anything on a sale.

    i agree with mrsb

starting with things you know is always a good idea then you have the best idea of 'REAL' value plenty of things look good on paper but it doesn't mean they actually sell for those prices if you see what i mean

the more you know something the better you're able to look for pitfalls, give very good descriptions and understand the minds of the potential buyers

after you've got that one down you can branch out to other stuff you know

i will say that you shouldn't keep all your eggs in one basket, ie if you know other types of items do branch out... just not so much at the start until you get the hang of the whole ebay/boot sale thing

    good luck!

  • This sounds like fun! As soon as i've finished selling all my clutter i'm going to get joined in!

A guy I work with bought these Chicken Tikka Masala Jigsaws for 20p from a catalogue shop and they were selling for a tenner each! He ended up going back and getting more and now has a stock for next christmas.
