    What fun!

I picked up a 1950s children's book from the 'Little Grey Rabbit' series, with illustrations by Alison Uttley. It cost me 30p in a charity shop. It was in fairly good condition. I bought it as I remembered having some of this series as a child and I wanted to share it with my own children.

However, the pictures are a bit twee and my 3 sons were not impressed at all - so having looked on ebay, I noticed that they went for around £5, so I listed it (my first ever Ebay listing).

Anyway, it went for £9.50, so I was thrilled.

I have now got the bug. I could do with clearing out some of my own rubbish first though rather than buying more!!

    Great thread. :T

About 2 years ago, I bought a Sylvac green jug at a boot sale for 85p. The jug is actually an acorn, with a squirel as a handle, perfect condition, down to the squirels ears. If anyone knows about Sylvac pottery, you'll know what its like!
I walked away from the stall, knowing I'd got a fab bargain, and two dealers came after me and offered me £50 cash on the spot.
I immediately said no, coz I thought it would probably be worth more. When I got home I was so excited telling OH, his words were " The jug is horrible, now if you'd come home with the £50.00, thats another thing!"

I had it valued at £80 to £90, think it depends on how sort after Sylvac is at the time of selling, but I've never been able to part with it, because I felt it was my acheivement to find it!!!!

    How sad!!

I'm going to go to the boot sale in the morning, and try this challenge!! :j

  • I know the jugs you mean, I've seen one of the squirrel/acorn ones on an antiques stall (don't remember the price). I really like them. If you had it valued at £80-90, then £50 was actually quite a good offer from a dealer, but I don't blame you for wanting to keep it - I would too. I have a nice fish design SylvaC jug which I bought in my favourite charity shop for 30p! It's probably only worth a few pounds, but I like it so I'm keeping it.

    Excellent thread!

Just this morning I went round the house and looked at all my book shelves and various other places where clutter collects! I don't know how well I'll do with the stuff but there are 19 items currently for sale on Ebay! I also found a a few items to give to a charity who put a bag through my door this morning! What a good day to clear some space, make a bit of money and help a good cause! :T

Okay. Been to a boot sale this morning and, unfortunatly, mostly junk. I managed to buy 3 items:
A small christening style pewter mug, engraved. 50p
    A 1/2 pint pewter tankard. 20p
    A glass 1 litre stein. £2.00
They will be cleaned up and on ebay, so watch this space for the results. (I'm not expecting and big shakes here, but profit will be nice)
I'm back after a break :money:
  • As Car boot season isn't fully underway yet (at least not round my way its not) try house clearance auctions.
About 18 months ago I bought a load of photographic darkroom equipment for £1 (£1.18 inc auction fee!!). There must have been at least 30 items there which i sold for at least £3-4 per item.
As well as that there was a record player stylus in the lot. Brand new and wrapped in the box. There were none of the same for sale on eBay nor in the completed listings so i just stuck it down as a 99p starting bid. 7 days later it sold for £180.
Not been as lucky since but still had a few items that have surprised me.
