Pewter Tankard, beleive it or not. Every once in a while you can come across things like this
Was it an unusual one? Most pewter tankards are worth about £1 aren't they?
I've just sold 2 BNWT skirts for £6.20 altogether, got them in a closing down sale for 50p each, so that's not too bad, but not outstanding. I went to a jumble sale today and got a few things, but I'll wait till after tomorrow's car boot sale to decide what to declare as my challenge item.
  • Heres the idea, browse the boot sales or charity shops to find an intem you think you can maximise on, of course you may already have something at home you can use. You don't have to spend much anything from 5p to a fiver. Then either list it on Ebay or car boot it or auction it (if its really good) see how much cash you get back! Then list your trash to cash success stories here, hopefully there won't be any cash to trash stories though!
I have accepted your challenge. Unfortunately, the car boot sale which should have been on today, where I hoped to find a suitable bargain, was cancelled because the council had double-booked the hall, so I will have to choose my item from yesterday's jumble sale buys.
The item I think would make the biggest profit if I were to sell it is a set of 8 Beatles cassettes which I bought for 50p the lot, but I'm keeping those!
My chosen item is a Liz Claiborne vintage beret with applique/ribbon decoration, which I bought for 20p, and expect to sell for £4-5, though of course I'm hoping it will do even better. I'll list it this evening on a 10-day auction and post the result here afterwards.
I'll also post my net profit (hopefully!) from the whole jumble sale, which will mean the listing fees from unsold items will be deducted form the total. I purchased the following to sell on eBay:
    Vintage beret (see above) 20p
    Vintage Pierre Cardin bag 20p
    Vintage small evening bag/purse 20p
    Shellys shoulder bag 20p
    Vintage Jaeger blouse 10p
Vintage Dandi by Berkertex dress 10p
Riding hat, boots and whip £1.00

    Total £2.00

Not that spectacular really, but it was quite old and that must have appealed to the American market, where the most competetive bidding came from. I have also brought a lot of 5 pieces of pewterware from a boot sale for a £1, and one of the pieces turned out to be a Tudric sugarbowl (Art deco), that went quite well too, around £16 if I remember well. Matalan sales are good for cheap clothing BNWT, on some items I have made over 500% profit.
I'm back after a break :money:

Searched paper for a car boot, none untill next week, will try my best! My biggest bargain/profit was for an old 1950's brooch, paid 10p at car boot, sold it for £31.50. Hubby bought a 1960's naff kitsch print, the man wanted 3p for it! Hubby gave him 20p ( ever generous) he got £26 for that. I will get my change purse full of coins at the ready!

  • I haven't actaully sold these items but....... i have had so many bargain books from charity shops like the new martina cole books etc. for 5P excellent stuff, im sure i could sell them for at least 50p profit :D oh almost forgot..... at my last bootsale i bought the kids a few ps2 games for around 10p each (they sold as a set not seperate) and although i won't sell them, when i looked on amazon people are selling them for quite alot of money, i got a fair few of those final fantasy games which i could sell for at least a fiver and i only spent a fiver in total for about 50 games not bad eh?
Need to get rid of my Yankee Candle Habit, Not very money saving of me :)
  • but alas my nearest car boot is about 15 miles away and only on a sunday so my partner is a worker on a sunday, and i can't drive so i'm outta luck until he books holidays :(.

I'm jealous now! I've never found any PS2 games for less than about £2 each, and the better ones are normally about £4-6. I must be going to the wrong sales! I do occasionally get stuff really cheap at packing-up time though, e.g. a portable CD/cassette player 50p, 36 CDs (14 albums 22 singles) 70p the lot (mostly rubbish but a few worth getting), a big brass wall plaque with a ship design for 5p, nice leather handbag 5p, and a deep fat fryer for free!

I sympathise. Public transport on Sundays is crap, isn't it?
  • VERY and its doesnt get better when the public transport here dont travel up that way :(

  • Update: my vintage beret which I bought for Mrsbojangles' challenge sold for a slightly embarrassing £1.99, though since I bought for 20p, that's still OK. I may have chosen the wrong item from my jumble sale buys for the challenge - I'll let you know how the other items did after they've all finished tonight.
