To order a card reader you need to go through the 'Other Services' link from the left-hand menu after logging in, then it's under Miscellaneous.

Not sure Anna, sorry. I've used their online banking for years too, but rarely use my FlexAccount these days... but when I have, have had to use the reader since it was introduced (for every payment made so far, not just for setting up the arrangement).

I have never needed to use my card reader, I have had it for ages, I use my FA on a regular basis.

Both resulted in the same exchange rate - £18.03. But then, if you look at Visa Corporate's website for that day, 1 Euro actually costs GBP 0.899773, but for my cases they are worth GBP 0.9015.
    See http://www.nationwide.co.uk/current_account/foreigntransactions.htm#howmuch
If you carry out a transaction using your card in a currency other than sterling, it will be converted to sterling on the day the transaction is processed by our card scheme providers at a wholesale rate of exchange, which may vary daily. For an indication of that exchange rate, you can see the Visa wholesale rate of exchange at www.visaeurope.com/fxcalculator. This is an "indication" because transactions are processed when the retailer passes them on to the scheme provider, which is generally not on the same day the transaction took place.

does any one know if this should be all accounts, as i have signed in online today with intent of requesting a card reader online and there was no options to do so, even via account management page where you can request pin reminders, duplicate payments.

so incase it was only that you can order it when you try and make a payment, i set up a payee (myself to a lloyds tsb account) and that set it up fine without asking for any card reader etc to use.

so as a test i then went to pay £5 out of nationwide into the lloyds account and was approved and went through immeidatly, checked lloyds and money received in there???

so it may not be all accounts that need it for or could it be for payments of certain amounts etc?? and if it is this how do you order a card reader as no mention online or any where to request it??

Do you have a debit card or a cash card with your Flex account?

    From Nationwides web site:-

"Do you need a Card Reader?

If you don't have a FlexAccount VISA debit card account or you're not registered for our Internet Banking service, you do not need a Card Reader and the option to order a Card Reader will not be available."
  • These card readers are an absolute pain in the bum. I'm sure they do nothing to prevent fraud, all they do is complicate transactions and annoy people. It makes moving money around a time consuming task. I would rather do without them but RBS are starting to use them now as well.
