Nationwide Flex Account

im looking at opening a nationwide flext account so that i can use it for my foreign holidays.

however as im also saving for a mortgage i dont want to be credit checked if i dont have to.

it seems that when i had my hsbc credit card limit increased i was credit checked, so i therfore dont want an account credit checking me as when i apply fully for a mortgage, it may get refused as previous searches will have harmed my score.

so can any 1 on here confirm if this account credit checks you or not please

many thanks

phil

Nationwide do credit check when you apply for their Flex account.

If you haven't had multipile applications in the last 12 months, one search for a Nationwide Flex account isn't going to make alot of difference.

Most if not all current account search your credit files.

A few credit searches on your record really isn't going to affect your ability to get a mortgage (unless you've applied for 20 credit cards in the past six months, or something like that).

had car insurance monthly in sept 08

oct 08 applied for nation wide 10% deposit mortgage (approved in principal) which has now expired

jan 09 credit card in crease

and anytime in next few month look for another 10% mortgage as nationwide have upped it to 15% which i doubt ill be able to raise after having to pay for survey's solicitors seperate, never mind 2k to get what else i need to furnish a house

Surely if you are looking to have a mortgage with Nationwide it will be better to have a flex account with them, rather than a risk.

By the way there is no credit check just for using capital letters so why not splash out on a few?

I dont know, as i may not be getting my mortgage through them now.

As i want a 10% mortgage, so I have enough cash to furnish the house

As at present, I have the 15% deposit but nothing else. Although this may change depending on how long it takes to find the right house

Re: Lansdowne, is this enough Capital letters for you. I didnt realise that everything must be typed in the Queens English...

Hi Phil_GT, i would recommend you to apply for flex account ONLINE and not at the branch if you are seriously applying for one. Do you hold a cash card flex account?

For unknown reasons and it has been reported by MSE fellows here, they initially applied for Flex account at the branch and was turned down only to apply again ONLINE and it was accepted.

This is especially for those who have cash card and wanted an upgrade to Flex account. If you have a cashcard, then I would strongly recommend you to apply for an upgrade online and NOT at the branch.

You can have a cashcard flex account with nationwide. It is not a debit card, but it still have the advantage of free cash withdrawals worldwide.

Most if not all do credit search when applying for bank accounts. Why don't you upgrade to HSBC PLUS as it has no charges withdrawing cash aboard (although it does have an exchange rate charge of 2.75%).

Nationwide does not charge any fees at all. I am not sure whether Nationwide's basic flex cash account have free withdrawal fees aboard, maybe someone can answer this.
