Nationwide Flex Account

how long is nationwide ttaking at the moment for these accounts to be fully opened and cards issued etc.
i am an existing nationwide customer (credit card) and applied online via the internet banking i have for the credit card, though i selected that it was not going to be the main account and neither was i opening anything else, they accepted me and have advised i can get a cheque book and debit card. on the end of the process after this it advised that it needed a signature? and a form would be sent in the post
does any one know how long they take to send it, also am a bit concerned now as when i log on the internet banking and look at the account application screen it shows that it is approved but awaiting signature/identification?
so any experience from others on this - would it just be a signature they are waiting for or will i have to send additional ID as well, and if they want id to prove who i am, how could they already confirm that i was approved for the account and can get the debit card etc???
From what I recall, the letter is normally posted on the date you can see on your screen awaiting signature. I opened a new account with them in November but never received the form to sign so they had to send me a new one. They do seem quick in opening accounts as its normally opened within a couple of days of them receiving the form back and then you receive your card, pin number and cheque book within about 10 days after that. One thing to beware of though is that once the account is opened you need to ask them to send you a card reader to be able to make payments thru internet banking. I didn't realise this so was unable to do anything for about another week while I waited for it to be sent. I told them I thought they would send the card reader automatically seeing as I had applied for the account through internet banking but apparently not0 -
Just happened to be browsing and saw this thread - have to say I have had a really good experience with them. Opened the account solely for foreign travel as I hate having to pay to access my own money. Was given a £2,500 overdraft without asking and without having regular monry going in to the account. Must have saved over £200 or more on trips to Europe by using the card. Maybe not a huge amount but the irritation caused by charges imposed by other card issuers was immense!0

Hi, does anyone know where I'd be able to find the Cirrus exchange rate (or maybe MasterCard?) similar to the Visa exchange rate link given a few posts above, as I've got a cash card with my FlexAccount displaying only the Cirrus logo so the Visa exchange rate wouldn't apply to those of us with the cash card.
I believe there's a 0% fee in withdrawing cash at ATM's worldwide with this card? I'm planning to use this for withdrawals when I travel to Hong Kong next month, if anyone could enlighten me whether it should work there without any problems that would be great.

I've just found the letter from nationwide which says there'll be no interest whatsoever. This was sent out in June.
I should've paid more attention.0 -

Hello! Just to answer your question, no Mastercard does not publish their exchange rates like VISA.
When I was in Brussels a few days ago I did an experiment - withdrawn EUR20 with both Nationwide's Cashcard (Cirrus) and Visa Debit. The withdrawals were done at same bank ATM, one after another. Both resulted in the same exchange rate - £18.03. But then, if you look at Visa Corporate's website for that day, 1 Euro actually costs GBP 0.899773, but for my cases they are worth GBP 0.9015.
So I guess the implications would be that - Mastercard's Exchange Rate are really similar to VISA's quite closely, but the exchange rate that you get on your transaction will not necessarily tally with Visa Corporate's Exchange Rate.
Enjoy your trip to Hong Kong! It's a lovely place.0 -

One thing to beware of though is that once the account is opened you need to ask them to send you a card reader to be able to make payments thru internet banking. does any one know if this should be all accounts, as i have signed in online today with intent of requesting a card reader online and there was no options to do so, even via account management page where you can request pin reminders, duplicate payments.
so incase it was only that you can order it when you try and make a payment, i set up a payee (myself to a lloyds tsb account) and that set it up fine without asking for any card reader etc to use.
so as a test i then went to pay £5 out of nationwide into the lloyds account and was approved and went through immeidatly, checked lloyds and money received in there???
so it may not be all accounts that need it for or could it be for payments of certain amounts etc?? and if it is this how do you order a card reader as no mention online or any where to request it??MFW#105 - 2015 Overpaid £8095 / 2016 Overpaid £6983.24 / 2017 Overpaid £3583.12 / 2018 Overpaid £2583.12 / 2019 Overpaid £2583.12 / 2020 Overpaid £2583.12/ 2021 overpaid £1506.82 /2022 Overpaid £2975.28 / 2023 Overpaid £2677.30 / 2024 Overpaid £2173.61 Total OP since mortgage started in 2015 = £37,286.86 2025 MFW target £1700, payments to date at April 2025 - £1712.07..0
