I have no idea if this has already been said.

Don't save coins, spend them! That way cash stays in your bank account earning interest, might not be a lot, but still money.

I admit I used to do it myself. But now all the spare change goes in the Fat B4st4ard Machine at work, I even take the change from Mrs Mac. Better than visiting the hole in the wall.

  • Bought a £2 coin from my daughter last night!
The £2.00 Savers Club = £130.00 (Started Feb.06 -saving for a dream - to visit Thailand again!)
  • I've been saving my £2 coins, 20p's and 5p's (whenever I remember) and since the beginning of 2000 I have invested the money saved in premium bonds, I now have £2200. Not bad for someone who finds it difficult to save. Like most people here I also use a very plain but nice little white pig to collect the coins in and just empty it every now and then, cash in if it's a £100 and then buy a premium bond online, dead easy. It's my emergency fund and it's just nice knowing it's there if ever need it. I've only ever had one £50 prize and the celebratory dinner cost more than the prize! but that's not why I do it, it's because they are not easy to cash in, you have to write off for them so it makes it harder to succumb to the temptation to spend. :j

What a bright idea! That said, I don't often get £2 coins! We save everything below 20p normally though. I will go and dedicate the Miffy piggybank to £2 coins from now on ... starting at £0
I only draw enough money from my cheque account (with Nationwide B.S.) as I think I will need in the next few days. I dont get many £2 coins but spend them if I do with whatever else I am spending. I use cash only for those few shops that do not accept credit cards. Most shops do accept them. That way I maximise my cash back. (I have the recommended Platinum Amex card) and several backup ones for those (too many) that don't accept it. The money in my Nationwide account is thus maximised and is earning a very nice rate of interest. Long may it reign!

Except of course it will be $2.00 coins instead of 2 pound ones.

Will try and get it started tomorrow. I'm sure someone in the house will have a pretty little gold coin that I can start off with :rotfl:

    Will update siggy tomorrow, too.

  • I was thinking along the same lines little bear but have decided that it would get lost into general funds. For me the excitement would be when I open my full savings pot and the £2 coins will be like windfall money

I haven`t been shopping so no coins for a few days

I think I will save for a holiday
