  • Tips for Gathering, Hoarding and Squirreling Away £2.00 Coins.... :D

    Newsagents and Corner Shops
The smaller shop keepers are always crying out and lamenting for small change. Poor babes… Now’s your chance to be their Best Friend. They fret, worry even agonize and have Sleepless Nights about not having enough pennies in the till…poor souls…. Listen to their woes and lamentations… They will love you and even talk to you…then strike… exchanging your pennies for the Prize. If you’re lucky you may even get a freebie item or two from them – check the sell by date though…. :p

    Raid the Kids Piggy Banks
Yay…how good is that…. The Raid can be done by Stealth or by Bullying. Stealth is great and really, really Sneaky and involves Sweet Talking and Cajoling … whatever that means… Bullying is much more fun – hee hee. The kids will probably much prefer lots of really shiny, wonderful little 5ps instead of one big dull, unexciting, really heavy, brassy thing. If the stealth doesn’t work then up-the-anti to Bullying – hee hee. Bullying involves lots of ‘Finger Wagging’ and ‘Stern Looks’ – practise in front of a mirror.... :rotfl:

    Banks
A great source of £2.00 Coins or should be…after all they make the things….. Take your pennies to these places – strike while the Iron is hot…or something like that… Don’t go at Lunch Times when they are really, really busy – they will be annoyed and Glare at you. Plan your visit times carefully.... be Shrewd and Sneaky. Going to the Bank two minutes before closing time is not being Shrewd and Sneaky...

What a fascinating site, makes me want to collect the different designs of all the coins. I have always liked collecting things but still, what a thing to admit to :rotfl:

I see three dilemmas facing the £2 Coin Savers Club:

    1. Do we simply collect coins we happen to receive or go out of our way to get them?

2.Does the possibility of getting a £2 coin in your change become a justification for spending money that you ordinarily wouldn't?

    3. Do we save in pots or the bank? If you saved a £2 coin per week how much interest would you lose by keeping in a pot rather than banking? Anyone care to do the maths?!

    Good luck everyone!! :D

    1. I will be collecting them as I happen to receive them in any change I get.

    2. I normally pay for most things on my Tesco credit card (points mean prizes) so I wont be going out of my way to spend extra money. Since I started saving them I've had two days running when I've been given change with £6 in £2 each time I've saved two and spent one (as £2 is actually quite a bit..well for me anyway).

    3. I think I'm going to do a bit of both. Will probably save between £10/£20 at a time and then pay it into my Ing holiday savings account along with my coppers.

Good luck with your saving. :T
Saving for Disney again, oops why book one Disney holiday when you can book two!

This is a good idea but only for those who can afford to hide away those HUGE £2 coins... I tend to out away anything smaller than 20p and after 18 months had a weekend away in Somerset with the Mrs... very nice indeed.

I think it would be fun for everyone to bank them in a savings account on the same day creating a surplus.

:T great idea!! wouldn't it be brilliant to make some local news story about the sudden depositing of so many £2 coins :rotfl:

I've been saving £2.00 coins for some years, since they became more prevalent. I used to put them in a teddy (not piggy!) bank for my daughter and regularly banked £50 - £100 for her. I've just looked and right now I have £32 in £2 coins - I save other denominations too. Also I bought my partner one of those neat coin sorting machines and he always put his loose change in it and now has enough to pay for his newly covered racing car seat. Do bank it regularly tho', it's reckoned that there's LOADS of money just sitting about in peoples houses, in piggy banks, jars, etc - it's no good there, get some interest on it!

Thanks to all who replied to my dilemmas!!

    1. I don't want to go out of my way to receive them but will still be excited when I do, lol!

    2. Obviously I didn't really mean we should all start spending notes like crazy on things we don't need just to get £2 coins, how daft do you think I am ;)

    3. I know all the arguments for banking them and earning interest but part of me really wants to have a giant pile of £2 coins and have the satisfaction of seeing the savings!! I think I will end up banking them when I have a decent amount though, it doesn't make any sense to have them lying around really. Keeping track of how many I collect will feel good though, will have to be satisfied with that. As I only have £4 so far this particular dilemma is not too urgent!!

    Happy saving everyone!! :)
