Well I knew someone would take the bait, I wouldnt have known where to start.

So 1000 coins for a month. Lets say the club doubles in size over the next 4/8 weeks and we can get 2000 coins per month. 232,000,000 divided by 2000 = 116000

It would only take 9666 years, 116000 months and approx. 3528090 days to collect all the coins. Not taking into account the lack of availability eventually of the coins.

Not long to go ay? lol.

I think there are about 3 in circulation now ;)

What a fascinating site, makes me want to collect the different designs of all the coins. I have always liked collecting things but still, what a thing to admit to :rotfl:

I see three dilemmas facing the £2 Coin Savers Club:

    1. Do we simply collect coins we happen to receive or go out of our way to get them?

2.Does the possibility of getting a £2 coin in your change become a justification for spending money that you ordinarily wouldn't?

    3. Do we save in pots or the bank? If you saved a £2 coin per week how much interest would you lose by keeping in a pot rather than banking? Anyone care to do the maths?!

    Good luck everyone!! :D

    Our first dilemma.

    1. We shouldnt go out of our way to receive coins. If you want to save anyway, you should put your money into a savings account.

    2. If you are spending just to save then your spending rules out the saving, making it pointless.

    3. I personally think we should be saving in the bank, and my £2 will be going into my savings accounts eventually. If we get £4 per week, £16 per month thats £192 per year. 192 * 5% = 201.60 which equals £9.60 of interest you would be missing out on. (5% as an average rate, highest rate with ICICI is currently 5.25%. Not deducting tax).

Lotta - thanks for your signature line "One hundred years from now..." I have written it in my book of poems and quotes that mean a lot to me or make me laugh. It's a nice book to read through now and again to make me remember just what all this is really about.

Thank you. It's actually a quote by Forest Witcraft and I think it puts a lot of things in perspective and helps you to remember what the truly important things in life are. Sometimes it's all too easy to forget them. :)

I have been saving £2 coins for about 3 years now. I don't get many as I mostly shop with my credit card, but when I get to £100 I buy a Premium Bond with the money. It's safe from me spending it and - who knows - I might just win something one day, although nothing to date. I have about £400 worth of bonds now and still saving (and hoping for that win!).
