The internet phone package from Utiity Warehouse is good value. You get an adaptor which plugs into your internet cable and it allows you to make calls using your broadband internet line instead of a phone line. All calls are free of charge and it costs £2 per month.

I rent an office where phone line services are an additional add on of £40 per month. In addition, the call charges are bumped up an extra 10%, so the internet phone is a great package for me.

This thread is about gas and electricity, but since you raise the second broadband internet telephone line for only £2 a month, it is pertinent to point out that this second internet line with BT is FREE.

In addition the following enhancements are inclusive with BT and are not available with UW, or available at extra charge. This was covered in another thread and, judging by their silence, I believe the UW reps conceded.

    250/350/unlimited free texts a month,

free comprehensive security package, - firewall etc - option 2

    call minder,

    caller display

a second(internet) phone line with a separate telephone number

250/350/unlimited minutes a month free internet access on BT Openzone for a laptops

The ability to interrogate BT call minder from abroad.

    Freephone help line.

In addition the occasional discounts like reduced rental for 3 months etc.

    Hi Cardew

Is there a monthly charge for calls on the BT broadband phone?

    No

Plenty about the BT package v UW package on the other UW thread.

More than happy to continue the discussion there; however I can understand the tactic of shifting the discussion away from UW's very high gas and electricity prices.;)

You were stating that UW were cheaper, long before the store card came out.

Whichever way you look at it it is an inescapable fact that UW are one of the most expensive suppliers of gas and electricity in UK.
Upon occasions UW were cheaper than others. They stopped being so some time ago, but, sometimes become reasonably competitive on price alone. As you are aware, prices fluctuate and what was "the cheapest" suddenly isn't. At present UW aren't, but, they do now have the pre payment card that means customers in certain circumstances (MeMeMe) can end up paying less every month for those utilitities.

In this thread I have been quoted "the cheapest" gas and electricity prices for my area. But, I have shown that I still pay some £4.50 LESS per month by using UW and the pre payment card. Obviously UW is not the company for you because of your apparent loathing of it. However, the fact remains that some people can save money every month by taking gas and electricity from Utility Warehouse and using the pre payment card.

Just had my 2nd bill from Utility Warehouse. Meter reading are certainly not from my meters!!!

Spoke to them yet again and gave actual readings. Bloke I spoke to at Utility Warehouse asked if I had read my meter correctly!!!!! I pointed out that as a 42 year old I am quite capable of reading meters. I pointed out that my first bill was based on incorrect readings too. It now transpires that Utility Warehouse are taking £120.00 per month from my bank account too to cover the cost of gas & electric used!! I only paid £50.00 for both gas & electric to SWALEC and was in credit most of the time with them. I asked the guy at Utility Warehouse if he would be happy with the level of service offered by them if he was in my position and he said "NO".

I can't wait to go back to SWALEC. To anybody thinking of switching to Utility Warehouse, DON'T DO IT. It's not worth the hassle and aggravation.

I have to ask, why did you swap then?

I moved to Utility Warehouse because they assured me they were a lot cheaper than my existing supplier. This is not the case.

I spent about an hour today trying to work out how they have arrived at my bill total. Last month's bill has gas readings which were certainly not supplied by me. I haven't got a clue where the readings came from, certainly not from me and certainly not from Swalec.

To make matters worst when I gave Utility Warehouse my meter readings last month they have used my gas reading for my electric bill. My gas bill still has a gas reading not supplied by me. Goodness knows where that has come from. I wish I have never heard of Utility Warehouse!!!

Did you sign up with a distributor, or, through the company web site? I ask as I have had a couple of customers who had problems and I was able to get them sorted to their satisfaction. If you signed with a distributor, talk to him/her and see if (s)he can help. If you signed with the company direct, send me a private message with your customer number and I'll see what I can do.

    This is getting laughable now.

I had a letter today from Utility Warehouse informing me that they are going to suspend my telephony service unless I pay them within the next 7 days!!!

My telephone service is actually with Sky! I contacted Utility Warehouse this morning and the young lady I spoke to informed me that there is a balance outstanding against my phone account! After informing her I am with Sky and haven't switched my phone to them she admitted that they are in a "bit of a muddle" at the moment and some customers have been receiving incorrect bills!!!!

This explains everything now I guess!!!!!
