What if all this money given by the Govt to the banks doesn't work and the country goes bust? Would you get the money back you'd invested in your bank that had also gone bust? Your 'argument' illustrates that the cashback card is a GOOD IDEA, judging by the scraping of the worst case scenario barrel going on.
Admit it, if you shopped regularly at Sainsburys, joining UW and using the card would save you money on your utility bill. Yes? No?
Yes it would, but then why sign up to something thats expensive to start with to get a discount on it afterwards? Why not sign up with the cheapest supplier in the first place?
To get the prices on UW down to the same level as one of the cheapest suppliers you have to do all your shopping in one place (not something a moneysaver would do) paying more in Sainsburys than other supermarkets, or you would have to sign up your friends onto a tariff you know is not the cheapest for them to have to go through all the same to get their prices down to a reasonable level.
Ignoring the phone side of things as thats only competitive if you are lucky enough to live in a LLU area. You can save a lot more by being on the cheapest tariffs with almost any other supplier, getting a proper credit card (not some pre-pay card) that pays cashback on EVERYTHING you spend on it not just at certain shops.
I have absolutely no idea why you get so defensive over UW when you say you arent with them because you yourself get it cheaper elsewhere and you say you arent a distributer.
I dont hate them like some of the others on here but I certainly dont think they represent value for money in the slightest and I definately dont like the way the reps do business, coming on here pretending to be satisfied customers etc.Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!0 -
Well the electric and gas are budget. The telephone element fluctuates, BB is fixed.
Add them all up and I have an average payment of £94 over past 3 months.
For anyone who wants to check my best deal I seem to be using 11,000KW of gas per year and 3,750 of electric.
As you live in Lincs I used the postcode LN2 1PN
I checked 2 comparison websites using 11,000kWh gas and 3,750kWh electricity paying by Direct Debit.
Energyhelpline(Martin states is best) gave:
Cheapest NPower at £750 with the cheapest UW tariff at £924. So UW is 23.2% more expensive than NPower. (UW was 35th in the ranking by price)
USWITCH
Cheapest NPower at £749.72p with the cheapest UW tariff £944.95. So UW is 26% more expensive than NPower (UW was 42nd in the ranking by price)
Check them for yourself if you feel the above is inaccurate.0 -

1) Ignoring the phone side of things as thats only competitive if you are lucky enough to live in a LLU area. You can save a lot more by being on the cheapest tariffs with almost any other supplier, getting a proper credit card (not some pre-pay card) that pays cashback on EVERYTHING you spend on it not just at certain shops.

1) Why 'ignore the phone side of things'?If you are in a LLU area (how many aren't these days?) then it's a very competitive deal. If you aren't in an LLU area then not so much. But that's the same with most telecoms companies except BT, of course (who rip you off in so many ways anyhow. Witness the price increases cvoming in April). And I have asked for a link to this credit cashback card that pays an ongoing 5% several times on here and never had a reply. I'm hoping you can help here, Chris.
2) Reason is hypocrites are a pet hate of mine. Check out what Quentin and Cardew REALLY think of each other elsewhere on here (it led to one of them reporting the other for 'abuse' ). Best of bosom buddies in this thread.
3) To be fair, you firstly wasn't aware of their customer discounts for recommending people then when it was proved to be the case (which seemed to throw you somewhat) proceeded to suggest that the company wouldn't pay outPlus, your extremely flimsy argument against the cashback card suggests you really don't like them at all. Hate is a strong word. If Quentin hates them (and he does, poor thing), then I suggest yours would be strong dislike. What I genuinely can't understand from some on here is they can't bring themselves to admit even one positive with this company, which is clearly silly.
PS I agree with you about (a tiny minority of) the reps, btw. But I balance that with the sheer volume of energy industry workers in this forum who don't declare their interest and proceed to defend their companies.
PS I can't really take you seriously when you say To get the prices on UW down to the same level as one of the cheapest suppliers you have to do all your shopping in one place (not something a moneysaver would do) paying more in Sainsburys than other supermarkets, or you would have to sign up your friends onto a tariff you know is not the cheapest for them to have to go through all the same to get their prices down to a reasonable level. when I witness how much time and energy you have expended at Tesco getting a few quid off things (including, I believe, an interview with your local store manager with security present?). That's the sort of hypocrisy I'm on about.Call me Carmine....
HAVE YOU SEEN QUENTIN'S CASHBACK CARD??0 -

How that is relevant to Gas and electricity I just dont know, I wasnt getting a few quid off anything, I was getting it free. Were you following me? If not how can you possibly know how much time and energy I spent getting the free stuff from Tescos?
I only used to go to tescos to get the free stuff, I used to shop around for my groceries and other things, only going to Tescos to get the mispriced goods. The "Interview" you speak of was a meeting to get them to see the error of their ways and overturn the stupid ban they put on me and lasted all of about 10 mins.
Lets face it, the biggest hypocrite has to be one that constantantly defends a company as being great value etc but isnt with them himself as he gets a better deal elsewhere.
The whole discussion on UW is pathetic, if you love them so much change to them, if not shut up and move on.Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!0 -

What's up KY?
You recently had a pop at MSE Martin's "silly" traffic lights and now this.
Maybe try a little tolerance like what I do.0 -
Plushchris wrote: »So what would happen if you loaded £200 onto the card and then UW went into recievership?
What would happen if you had £200 in Barclays and they went bust? That is actually a much more likely scenario as UW have cash, not bad debts. The card is admistered by Mastercard. I suspect that the money paid in goes to them and then UW get their cut from it.The mind of the bigot is like the pupil of the eye; the more light you pour upon it, the more it will contract.

There is no need to rely on suspicion.
When taking out the card you agree to it's ts + cs.
The first sentence of these warns you of the risks associated with the card:
