Culpepper - well done on the weight loss:T
    Do what you love :happyhear
  • Yuerk indeed Syb  still I suppose that means it's on the mend;)

Mummysaver I hope you're Ok after your bump;)

    Happy Birthday Aussie! :bdaycake:

Nice and sunny here but cold. Dd still at home but she's on the mend. I've never had a child off school for so long.

Beds made, laundry nearly done, ironing done. Popped to Waitrose to take back a cookbook I bought on impulse yesterday -got a refund no trouble. Bought apple juice which I'd forgotten yesterdy:rolleyes:

Mum is coming for lunch. She invites herself for lunch and then when I ask if whatever I'm serving is OK with her she always says 'if you can spare it, I never eat lunch'. I've never ever known her not to eat lunch and next time she says 'if you can spare it' I'll say no, I can't, but there's a stale crust of bread if you want that:rolleyes: honestly why would I say 'do you want an omelette?' if I couldn't spare the eggs:confused: Anyway she'll be happy as dd being poorly will give her something to worry about- and she just loves having something to worry about.

Got some mince defrosting for tea. Going to try and tempt dd's appetite with keema curry;)

Edit to say am planning to use up the chicken stock and leftover cauli-broccoli cheese to make soup for lunch.

Breadrolls are in the oven ready to make a late breakfast for me and DH.

He has been phoning round trying to see if his final salary pension is still safe.

If it is looking dicey then I am trying to persuade him to retire early even though we have not sold our house yet and moved to one with a nice garden etc.

Going to have a shower and get changed and do a little bit of shopping later and might make chicken curry for tea in the Remoska as we have chicken thighs that need using up.

Hope your "problem" improves now. I had a Bartholin's abcess about 20 years ago and had to get it operated on- the relief was incredible as the pain before the operation was really bad!

Nice to see you back!!!:j :j

Hope the nurse has been and you are feeling a bit better.

  • Sistercas - Big Cook Little Cook is one of my favourites, not v old style but some interesting presentation. Little bear joins in with the actions for the songs.

I am actually getting 'into' Ceebeebies and get quite upset if I miss Space Pirates. I sometimes get a little concerned at this, but it could be worse. There could be snakes.

Sore, fed up, gunked with penicillin and not going out due to weather.

BUT Lakeland catalogue has come. I may be some time.

Really appreciate the well wishes. Thank goodness for MSE!

    Hugs to all.

Halight, what a great post. I think that is part of what OS is all about, really. Using what you've got effectively and being grateful that you have it. People who measure what they have by some marketed vision of perfection will never be happy, especially in this economic climate.

My plans went to pot this morning. We came back from our friends' at about 11 last night, but ended up not going to bed until about 3.30 this morning! So we didn't get up until 10.30  and I'd forgotten to put the breadmaker on last night so we're waiting for our bread to cook before I can make him a cooked breakfast :rotfl: So we're going off to the farmshop and the butcher for our weekly shop, then having breakfast for lunch! So much for surprising him with breakfast in bed for a treat!

Hope everyone has a good day xx
  • Good morning Chums ,
chest infection in full blown grotty stage and have anti-bios from Dr. to take .Hate this rain as I just stiffen up, and joints sieze up.But being a cussed old woman I shall still trundle along to History class this afternoon. We are doing Helen Keller, and I'm so looking forward to that.Daren't tell eldest DD that I'm off out, she would come and pinch my car keys.Managed to get all my shopping yesterday, and even popped into Aldi's and bought their 49p bag of spuds .They look o.k. and I worked it out at almost 5p a kilo as opposed to Mr T who wants 1.98 for the same amount. about three pence a lb.
Went to local Sainbugs last night to get prescription filled and also bought 4ltrs of fresh milk for a pound, plus some reduced parsnips for 20p and a big bunch of Rhubarb for 10p so rhubarb crumble and custard will be on the menu this weekend. No more shopping now for me until next Friday.
What a horrible long month January is I always think still not long now till springtime .<<hugs to those who feel as cheesed of with the weather, the economic climate, and anything else thats making you feel down>>

Happy Birthday to Aussielass, she always reminds us that the sun is shining somewhere even if its not in grey and gloomy Britain :bdaycake: :bdaycake:
Have a good Friday everyone, I am off to sort out lunch as my youngest DD will be popping in then its off to college for the afternoon:j

Afternoon everyone, I've not had the chance to post recently, so much going on.

Halight, nice post and very true. Things do need to be put in perspective, it seems many people forget that. One of my friends has had their ten day old baby requiring an emergency operation, another friend has had their eighteen month old taken to hospital for an operation to close the hole in her heart. The odd thing is, everybody is openly talking about it, but they apologise to me when talking about jobs or planning this years holiday, just because I was made redundant earlier this month. I've only lost my job, nothing more, but you would think I was dieing the way some people carry on.

I've been carrying out a number of OS activities, including buying whole chickens and de-boning it myself rather than buying prepared breasts or thighs. It is so much more cost effective and I can boil the bones up for stock. Batch cooking has also become the norm, but that will have to stop now as both the freezers are full. I've also managed to get another job, its something I haven't done before and probably wouldn't have applied for it if I was still employed. Just need the references to come back before I can start the six weeks training.

    Have a good one everybody.

IN a rush because I'm babysitting the grandchildren in half an hour. Wanted to send (((hugs))) to PenPin, Jackie0 and Mummysaver.

Sistercas - thanks for the salt tip. When I was a dental nurse, we had a spill of hydraulic oil from an old dental chair that was being removed, and I managed to clear it all up by sprinkling cat litter on it. I left it for an hour or so and had soaked it all up; after that, it was a doddle to clear the litter up. I no longer have cats, sadly, but will be buying some cat litter just in case the same thing happens again!

    Well, must dash.

Lovely day here today sunshine but we did start the day with snow showers so it is very cold. I would take the dog out but still have DS x2 home, I know they are much better as they have begun arguing again!
Have done some much needed cleaning today and lit the fire so its all cosy for the boys. Have a loaf in bm and lovely smells now from the kitchen.
We got sorted with the bank who have now decided that they will help us out and extend our loan term. Another headache out of the way. I hate January its such a long month. Still all debts are paid for another month and hopefully we will begin saving a little now. Thanks to OS should be in a better position this time next year. I really must try to get some weight off now thats the next goal. Hugs to all who need them and keep warm folks.
