Friday 23 January 2009

Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Friday 23 January. This is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread that we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we have achieved already. Everyone is welcome so please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well”, type start does just as well
:D:D:D
HAPPY BIRTHDAY
AUSSIELASS

:beer::beer::beer:
Hello everyone - guess lots of people don't know me...but I'm "old school" Old Style - though I recently rebelled and went off for a while. Anyway, happy birthday AussieLass even though technically, for you, it was yesterday. A year old and a year wiser:rotfl:

My news - about to finish my current wo*k contract, after that I'll be a full-time Job Seeker:(

Big soft hugs and cuddles to everyone, I know some of you have been having tough times.

Snowy

    Morning All!

Wide awake at 5, so cuppa tea in hand, I thought I'd start today's thread.

Looks grotty out there today. Been raining in the night, hope today is not too bad, weather wise.

Went to the docs yesterday, signed off for another 4 weeks:eek: Feet are still bad. However, my Dr is lovely, he always makes me laugh, he said "Well you'll be an expert on daytime tv by the time you go back!":rotfl:

Stairlift is in, and lovely, although I didn't use it yesterday, it rained so much!

Get my new car next Weds:T New fiesta, same colour as in the advert "Hot Magenta" Thsnk ou motability:T

Taking my Dad to a Burns Night Supper this evening, shuld be fun.

There are 2 posts this morning. I think this one was started first.

Day off today. OH has supply teaching work and so I can loaf about the house and sort out a few jobs and generally not get nagged.

I have been watching Masterchef, which is unusual for me as I don't like those sort of programs, but this one is actually quite good. Anyway I might try and make somthing a little different tonight, from the leftovers of my freezer. I have fish I caught last year, Some BBQ wings and burgers All smashed together with a smoked mash potato crust and blackberrys and there you go??? Perhaps not.

Very wet here today, just plain horrible.

A friend bought me a couple of boxes of Ginsters seconds. So I have 48 various meat slices for emergency dinners less than 25p each, so cheap food, if a little mass produced

    Hope you are all well....

Hi all. Not sure which thread to post on but N9eav has decided for me! N9eav - I'm sure you don't get nagged! Does your wife read any of your posts? You'll get yourself into trouble with 'er indoors', if you're not careful!

    Hapy Birthday Aussie Lass!:bdaycake:

SnowyOwl - good to hear from you again and good luck with the job-hunting.

Moggins - I do hope you can get something worked out at DS's school.

Smoky - good to hear from you.

Donny-gal - good to hear from you, too.

It's pouring with rain here, and has been all night, I think. It's not too cold, though. I don't know what happened to the severe weather warning I read on Metcheck for last night, though. It certainly wasn't windy.

Well, DH worked late yesterday so I was still clearing away the dinner things at 10.15, so no chance to sit down and watch anything on TV. I've recorded the programme about value-foods, and Victorian Farm, so I hope to get time to watch them later.

DGS and DGD (6 today!) have had the tummy bug that's doing the rounds, so they are being kept off school today. DS1 was taking the afternoon off work but has been asked to go in for a couple of hours, DIL has to work this afternoon, so I am going round to their house to sit with the children for a couple of hours this afternoon. I suspect we'll all snuggle up on the sofa and watch TV or read books, so I'm looking forward to it.

Dinner tonight is undecided but will probably be a fry-up because I have bacon and sausages that need using up. Pudding will be the rest of the bread-and-pudding I made yesterday. I did jackets, sausages and beans yesterday and I can't get over how impressed we are with Co-op's own brand baked beans - just as good as Heinz but a lot cheaper, and impossible to tell the difference! I've checked one tin against the other and there's barely any difference between the two nutritionally, so just as healthy a choice. The other value things of theirs I've tried have been very good, so I shall try some more.

Well, must go and get DH up - he's off this morning because he has a lot of running around to do to get organised for next week's work; I doubt I'll get as much time on here, now, but I'll try and call back when I can.

Lots and lots of (((hugs))) for all who are unwell, anxious, sad or have lost beloved pets. It's been a sad month for many on here - I shall be glad to see the back of it.

    Have a good day.

Been awake since 5  but forced myself to stay in bed, but did nip down to put WM on ;). 2nd load to go on in a mo, bed stripped, awaiting DD's awakening to strip theirs too.

Not much on today apart from the usual swishing etc etc.

  • Morning all
    Lovely to see you Snowyowl.
    Happy B'day Aussie.
Big hugs to those in need.
Off to work soon, I wonder how many people will cry today, it probably depends on how many of us are told we aren't working hard enough!!! I shall be gutted when it's my turn to be told as I often work through my lunch hour & often stay late, still, a new broom & all that.
Hubby's been dropped at the station, but I expect he'll be home before me, I just hope he gets paid, he's been messed around all week.

    Breakfast - Porridge
    Lunch - Sarnies
    Tea - probably chops
I hope everyone has a good day
    Hugs Hester

    good morning

    snowy welcome back
aussielass happy birthday. hope you have a lovely day 21 again ????

mioliere I saw on a tv programme recently if you drop egg on the kitchen floor, the easy way to clear it up is to sprinkle salt on it which absorbs it and then you can scrape it up. I wonder if it would work for oil?

Wsybil did you see big cook little cook this morning? they made a quiche that looked like a fish tank complete with fish shaped pepper it looked really good ( I was watching all by myself this morning - well its cheerier than the news lol)

    raining here again
need to do some flying today as I have definitely been lacking in that department this week.

need to pop out and do a bit of shopping, fresh stuff mainly
i need some inspiration for meals I have struggled to think of something this week. will have to look at the meal plans thread

hope everyone has a great day

    Good Morning All

    Many Happy Returns Aussie:beer:

Dont fancy dinner at yours tonight N9eav :D

Am so glad its Friday, didnt sleep well last night, the rain kept waking me up - cant moan though I was snug in bed whilst OH was working in it.

Have DD at home today - has a temperature and a dodgy tummy. Parents evening went well last night - she is doing OK in everything. Cant believe she is starting some GCSE's now.

Normal day of housework, paperwork and ironing. Think will pop to the butchers and get some meat for Sunday - probably Pork. Have been asked to make another carrot cake but think will do that tomorrow.

    Have a great day.
