Hi everyone - thought I better pop in and say hello as it's been a while - been too busy in the Garden to get on here!!:rotfl:
Had a lot of rain over the weekend so the Garden looks really lush & green, I love when the soil looks wet. The only thing I have picked so far from the Garden is some Radishes and loads of Rhubarb but everything else coming along nicely. Got some flowers already on my Peas & Broad beans, also growing the following:-
Rocket
Tomatoes
Cherry toms for Hanging Baskets
Peppers
Mini peppers for Hanging Baskets
Nasturtiums for Hanging Baskets
Beetroot
Carrots
Leeks
Onions
Spring Onions
Swede
Cabbages
Courgettes
Chillies
Strawberries
Blackcurrants
Blackberries
Gooseberries
Raspberries
Runner Beans
Salad Potatoes
Maris Piper Potatoes
Sweetcorn
Lettuces
Didn't realise the list was so big - just getting impatient now for everything to start producing!!
Hope you are all doing well too.:D"WASTE NOT, WANT NOT!"GC for OH, myself, DD18 & DD16 includes Toiletries, cleaning stuff & Food.

Well it has gone quiet on here again! The weather is fantastic today, so the garden is getting some much needed sun, after more than enough water!
We are going to spend some serious time out there tomorrow, sorting out the cat barriers as they are now squashing the spuds and some salad bits.
We have had lots of radishes out of the garden and will have some salad leaves this weekend, so OH is thrilled so far
Our strawberry plants are also going really well, so hopefully not too long until home grown strawbs for breakie and jam
I hope everyone is having a good day and lots of gardening planned for the weekend

Wow what a great thread, Hello everyone Im a newbie to gardening too, work part time. mum to 4 including 1 preschooler so madly busy but have found pottering in the garden has become a bit of an obsession for me!! My lovely DH has converted part of the shed into a potting shed for me with a sloping window and bench, it still looks a bit like a building site but works really well. In last couple of months I have managed to get a few potatoes going in black sacks, Im using the compost from my composter for earthing up (not sure if thats the right thing to do but hey they seem to be ok) peas are growing well in black cut flower buckets from Morrisons with holes punched in bottom, also strawberries that I planted in a tower thing last Autumn looked really sad over winter but now going completely mad, also have a few cabbages in grow bag, just put a few brocolli plants from market in a gro bag but they are looking a bit floppy at moment. Mange tout in black buckets also. Potting shed has some lettuces, trailing mini toms, cucumbers, peppers and sping onions in but these are all a bit tiny still, unfortunately I started growing them infront of shed window and then hubby ripped shed apart to rebuild and they were left out in all weathers for a few days. I didnt want to complain as he was doing all the work for me so hopefully they will catch up. I think I need to start a bit earlier next year but Im loving it anyway and am managing to involve the younger 2 children a fair bit. Thankyou notenoughcash for starting this. Is great to hear what everyone else is doing. Sorry this is so long, I just get a bit over enthusiastic about it.. cant wait to taste my first ever fresh pea!!!!!!!

Sorry I haven't been on here for ages.
Every spare minute is spent in the garden.
Almost everything is doing really well in spite of the great slug attack. I have beer traps everywhere, copper tape round the cut and come again salad pots and organic wildlife friendly pellets around the things they really love, like my brassicas. I watered in some nemetodes on tuesday so by next week hopefully they will be doing the trick. The frogs don't seem to venture as far as the veg garden but the hostas around the pond are untouched by slugs.
Cut and come again mizuna, rocket and mixed leaves have all been cut once and are coming again.
The garlic continues to thrive (all 28 of them).
The peas are doing fine and the mange tout has gone nuts.
Dwarf broad beans are starting to pod
Runner beans are starting to cling to their poles.
turnips are through at last (I sowed them to early)
Ditto the carrots.
Radishes are ready to harvest and the next lot are going great guns.
leeks are transplanted and looking ok.
Spring onions still look a bit puny but they were the same last year.
Spinch is sown were I harvested the rocket plants and is coming through. lettuce (little gem and lollo rosso are going mad under their bottle cloches which I'll lift off when the heavy rain stops threatening.
Celeriac is great. Lost one plant last night to something so they have bottle cloches over them tonight.
Cauliflower has suffered from the slugs but seems suitably protected now.
Cabbages are shooting up.
Both courguette plants fine but under attack from my slimy friends.
Strawberries are looking like having their best year yet. Some of them are 3 years old and the rest are runners.
Raspberries, blueberries, loganberries, blackcurrants, redcurrants all leafy and lovely.
Gooseberries doing well but noticed greenfly on them this morning and have taken action.
Cordon toms growing sloooowly but tumblers and garden perle getting bigger all the time and are in their baskets in the greenhouse.
had to replace the cucumbers today as both plants raised from seed keeled over.
Peppers and chillis are slow and the aubergine looks healthy enough.
We need more warm days. When it's raining it's only about 12 degrees in my greenhouse. When it's sunny like today it reaches 35. Lots more rain forecast which is fine for the flower borders but not so good for the veggies.
Can't remember if it was this thread where it was mentioned but beware of planting nasturtiums in baskets with trailing toms as nasturtiums don't flower well in good soil and certainly won't like tomato food.
Plant them in last years pots and you should get lots of flowers.
That's all folks.

Where is everyone? Are you all too busy in the Garden to get on here!
LOL.:rotfl:
Garden going great guns now, we've had plenty of sunshine and a fair bit of rain - so far we've had Radishes, Rocket & Spinach Beet from the Garden, everything else looking good and running out of space. Hope you are all doing well.;)"WASTE NOT, WANT NOT!"GC for OH, myself, DD18 & DD16 includes Toiletries, cleaning stuff & Food.

Yes, I think we're all busy out there weeding, planting and watering. Just remember how frustrated we all felt back in February when the ground was under snow and it felt that we'd never feel the sun on our backs again and be able to get out sowing. Everything here now is planted outside and peppers & aubergines are producing their first flowers and in their final pots on sunny patio. We are almost sick of the sight of our home grown lettuce - but not quite and it's lovely to see the vegetable patch full of healthy growing plants.0

Hi everyone

So far we've had a few lettuce leaves :T I've got some green strawberries (hurry up and turn red) more lettuce, carrots, potato's, beetroot... I just checked my tomato's and noticed really tiny buds!! I'm so excited now I can hardly wait
Shame the rest of the garden is like a total dump!! The whole lawn is dock leaves that we keep strimming down every week. The thing thats putting me off is all the glass and stones I'll have to fish through befor turf goes down... too hot atm to even think about it
Also got loads of slugs!! Not sure what to use that won't harm the dog
Even if you stumble, you're still moving forward.0
