    Hey All,

Melonade - I use organic slug pellets which are pet and child friendly they seem to have really helped the slug problem (don't get my wrong the little b*****s still get through every now and again but mostly its really helped) Ive also used beer traps and copper tape :) my cat seems fine with it all and he's into everything

Everything in the garden is coming along well, despite the fact that I have a cucumber that is refusing to grow:mad: , the other one is growing really well!!:D, my courgette is huge and has flowers coming, I have lots of green strawberries, the peas, sugar snap peas and mange tout are doing really well as are the cabbages. The runner beans are really struggling, these are the things that have suffered most at the hands of the slugs. Ive eaten loads of cut and come again lettuce, spinach beet and rocket, my cherry tree has two cherries  but it is its first year:D my blackcurrant is covered in fruit and my apple tree has apples:T
The pepper plants have lots of flowers and the chilli plants are about 15cm now, the tomatoes are coming along too, though a bit behind everything else!

my basil, chives and rosemary are also thriving:p

after re-reading that no wonder im exhausted :D

Hope your all enjoying it as much as I am...

oh nearly forgot the spring onions, though not suprising as they aren't too exciting - think I might be 50 by the time I get my first one ;)

  • My tomato plants have little tiny buds on them! Im very excited. I have also planted some sweetcorn seeds and hope to put a square of them in a raised bed once hubby has finished building it and they are just beginning to sprout. Daft question though.. I have planted a batch of lettuce.. mixed types and a couple of them are flowering? Is this normal or should I have eaten them before then. They are only small plants. A few inches high and quite skinny looking!! I picked a few cabbage leaves last night for our tea.. first thing I have eaten that I have grown so that pleased me no end ;) Everything else doing ok but nothing ready to eat yet

The lettuce with flowers... does that mean it's gone to seed maybe? I don't know 100% because this is my first year growing :o

lettuce with flowers..... yes it has gone to seed, either pick of the flowers and continue just taking leaves to use or pull the whole thing up..... still time to grow more

    Try this thread. ;)

The garden is doing really well despite the heat. It takes some watering every night though but it is worth it.
I watered in the nemotodes 2 weeks ago and they seem to have stopped the slugs in their tracks. :j
Toms, peas, broad beans and mange tout all have flowers on and I counted 250 strawberries. :D
Everything else all doing well except the courgettes. Lost another 2 plants so I'm giving up. :o Cucumbers are a bit funny too but I think that has been the heat of the greenhouse.

Forecast is mostly dry for the weekend so i'll be mostly in the garden... again. :D
  • Dry for the weekend? You lucky thing. Ours down south is rain but having said that at least I wont have to water :D

Light shower tommorrow evening, then cloudy on Saturday and sunny on Sunday. :D i'm in the north west of scotland and we are normally the ones with all the rain. :p
  • :jWell over the weekend I have been eating my cabbage on both Saturday and Sunday (poor DH will be sick of it by time we have finished as sadly none of kids will eat it!) and today I have bought my own selection of salad leaves in to work to have with my jacket spud later. Woop woop - I love eating my own food! My sweetcorn seeds are shooting up and I really hope they do well as sweetcorn is quite expensive and everyone eats that!. We were meant to be having a wet weekend but in reality it only rained over night so that was a result and everything will be going even madder now!
