For 2 years now I have been attempting to grow tomatoes & for 2 years I just don't seem to be able to manage, any hints or tips would be greatly received.

i simply put a single seed into a little seeding tray filled with seeding compost, then water, leave in a sunny place and dont let it get too dry or over water it,
the tommies just seem to grow - i admit i dont get every seed growing, but usually 3 out 5

    How is everyone's garden doing?

I have had a little slug action, very annoying, but i am killing lots everyday, so hopefully it will not get worse.

Loads of rain over the last couple of days so no need for watering, which is good.

Hope you are all going well?

Well the garden hasn't been washed away yet! But it has had enough rain for a few weeks, so bring on the sun please:)

I am giong to venture out to check on how the slugs have got on, i think we are getting very close to buying slug pellets - oh well, have avoided using them for the past 2 yrs and the beer traps and killing sprees and nematodes have not worked, so may be the only way left ;)
Well i hope we all get some good gardening time this weekend :)

I think we've all found the answer to depression. Get sowing !
Every day we have something to check and nurture when we get up and weeks of pleasant anticipation for when the crops start arriving. All this :Dfor the cost of a few packets of seeds, some of which will last for several years. . Just think how much the NHS would save on anti-depressives if everybody had access to a few pots or a little bit of ground for growing their own. One of the best reasons I know for getting out of bed in the morning, especially when the sun is shining.:D
Couldn't agree more, i use to hate my garden these days i can't wait to get out thier and see what has sprouted through the soil apart from the weeds that is...

I have only been doing this a week but already I am addicted. I don't even have a real garden, just a green bit next to my flat that I am filling with containers and pots lol! The thought of having a real garden, let alone a small holding, sounds fantastic!

Excellent! I have been thinking of adding beans and peas to my lot as well, think I might look out for some seeds today.

I managed to overheat some of my tomato seedlings, forgot to open up the plastic cover! Luckily I had planted loads so still have some left! Peas have appeared, some beans as well. The mix of rain and sun is working well. Wish it would stop raining now though...
