Raspberry canes will be fine in deep pots, i kept mine in tubs for 3 years, they are now in the ground and look a little confused!

My tomato seedlings are through - I'm growin tumbling toms for hanging baskets and some moneymakers. Loads of sweet peas through (for prettyfying rather than eating!) but the real peas are nowhere to be seen! Is it warm enough now to go ahead and sow outside?0

I'd say no... they don't need to be deep in the ground, and I found that the raspberry bush I had in a pot didn't do well at all - the pot was plenty big enough but it just never flowered or flourished, no fruit at all... this year it has gone into the ground and already it's looking so much better and has sent up some new canes as well.
If you can I'd try to get them into the groundTrying to make a better life.... If you need me you'll find me at the allotment.0 -
Thanks for that! Think I might do a wee experiment - will put two in a tub and the other in the ground and see what happens!Leopardlady wrote: »Raspberry canes will be fine in deep pots, i kept mine in tubs for 3 years, they are now in the ground and look a little confused!

Morning all, well my garden is very grateful for the rain overnight, it is now sunny, so should be a great day. My mother is coming to visit so may be able to spend some time in the garden, or at least doing something garden related. Need to keep my mind on something other than my health.
Hope everyones day is looking as lovely as mine

Just before I say anymore I want you all to realise I know how sad I am lol.
I just went out to check on my garden & the peas I had almost given up on have finally started sprouting, I have 3 shoots poking through now & even more exciting is the chicken wire mesh we put over the veg patch has worked & the cats are now avoiding it yay. No more cat poop on the garden. I just did a merry song and dance around the garden because I am so excited lol.
Can't wait til we can start munching our way through the garden, the children think i'm insane.
(thanks for being somewhere I can get excited lol everyone else thinks im a loon).
Hugs

Well you guys have put me to shame. I have started digging out the spot where I need my veggie plot to go. It's in horrific condition. So I've been sieving the soil. So far I have done one black bin full and got about the same amount in stones, roof tiles, bricks and broken glass.
I will do the whole bed like this and go about a foot deep but it means I need to put the earth somewhere while I am digging it all out. I've put the first bin on the concrete by the shed but think I may be better off bringing it up to the house and chucking it on the patio for speed and ease of getting it shovelled up to go back into the bed. I want to get this done ASAP so that I can get my potatoes in.
My fruit tress have been in pots for the last few years but I'm going to shove them in the ground this year and will shove in my blueberry bushes too. I need to create a border down the left side of my garden for this lot to go in and will then try to plant around them.
I get pig sick when I look at my neighbours garden because it's gorgeous. Her house is always clean and tidy and smells lovely too. Some people are just put on this earth to shame the rest of us aren't they? thank god for the warmer weather - oh and the mini greenhouses i set up antthe weekend......
i had planted some seeds and thought nothing had come of them. was giving them until this weekend before chucking them and starting again..... looked last night and some slow comers have poked through the soil top...... so happy now.... as the veg bed would have looked rather empty for longer......smile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to....

Well guys, i have covered my three sisters bed with mesh and the cats have stopped using it as a toilet. My 6 sweetcorn are now out, but cloched at night (bottles). I have 6 indian tomato plants that my mother gave me the other day, and they are out in the bed, they have coped so far, but will be cloched before the weekend.
My first potatoes have peeked through the soil, which is very exciting, and the garlic is just going really well, my shallotts are going well too.
In my tower i have some sweetpeas going really well, and a squash plant has sprouted, so not long before that goes out next to the sweetcorn.
I am sooooooo excited about my garden this year, my mother was very impressed with the raised beds that OH made, we are really hoping for a successful year. This has meant that i have been ruthless with slugs and snails, killing quite a few every morning!
Well i am happy with the rain, as i don't like watering my garden, but i think we could do with the sun returning now
I hope everyone is enjoying the Spring
