Martin / Webby, when it's tested on the MSE Towers monitors before being applied, can you test it on a laptop too?

Martin - if you want the site to be accessible, get the RNIB to okay it. They're the experts in what makes a website easy to use for people with some kind of visual impairment.

I'm a little confused by what people are saying. They say that it is too bright yet they also say that there are too many pastels, isnt that a contradiction? Considering that the green was brighter and more vivid before then the current one then it obviously isn't brighter, it is merely lighter (and therefore cleaner).

The cream at the left is apparently too hard to tell apart from the white in the main post area, I find this very odd because i'm sure the old look of them both actually being white was closer to them both being the same (ie identical). Cream in the posters area and white in main post area or white in both, which would cause most confusion? Well I know which I think would.

Then people are saying that the posts aren't seperated well enough and need something between them because theyre confusing. Isn't there a big green bar at the top of each post, the cream on left stops and there is a gap? Surely that tells everyone that it is a different post

Also since when did pastel shades give people headaches? I think that these people maybe have just got an headache naturally (some of them) and the others are imagining it (placebo effect). Do these people avoid google like the plague? Big white screen with bright blue writing on it.

Agreed, obviously some users simply don't like any change, can't adjust their monitor or customise their browser.
 Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:

It's the difference in contrast that is the problem, google has white background, but the other colours are bolder, less washed out than the ones on here.

I am not imagining my headache, and I didn't have it before I spent time staring at this new design. It is also no coincidence that my headache gets worse, and pounds, when I look at this! That doesn't happen if I go and look at the google homepage.

  • Sorry, I think it is too bright, too difficult to read and makes my eyes and head ache! :( My husband is pleased though, as I can only do 10mins of MSE at a time now, rather than hours. So I suppose my MSE forum addiction problem is solved!!!

Why should we do that just because one site decided to !!!! around with the colour scheme?

There should be VERY few people that need to adjust anything really, only those with significant eyesight problems.

The majority simply don't like change and prefer the look of the old site, this is nothing to do with the arguments that most of them have put forwards though which I feel is merely an excuse. The pastels give them headaches, that is the funniest thing i've heard in years, I bet their houses are bright red and bright green to stop them having such a problem.

    I'm all for beneficial change.

This ...... is awful. Reminds me of the Guinness advert where it goes back in time to the inverterbrates drinking at the mud hole. And one of them spits the water out with a loud 'Yuk'.

Take this as a (genteel) spit!
If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !

The contrast between yellow and white is the problem, as i am looking at the screen all i can see is the yellow blotches, it may just be by perseption put the yellow is overpowering, which does sound odd, but thats what it is doing.

If i turn my brightness/contrast down a lot it does look OK, but that would be well below the optimal standard for my monitor to give the correct colour/brightness/contrast ratio.
Thats it, i am done, Blind-as-a-Bat has left the forum, for good this time, there is no way I can recover this account, as the password was random, and not recorded, and the email used no longer exits, nor can be recovered to recover the account, goodbye all …………. :(
