If it's your ISP that is doing it (NTL/virgin are probably the worst for this in my experience) then there's not a lot you can do sadly :( To prevent your computer from doing it, if you are using firefox you can click tools, clear private data, put a tick in "cache" and click ok and that will then reload a fresh copy of the page. It will cache from that point on though so if it's critical to you, you should do this regularly.

I'm on Vodafone mobile BB. I use FF, and i cleared private data this morning! This is what I mean (and to those of you who keep telling me to not be bitter, I'm not bitter, I'm angry at being taken for a fool) - I did everything you're supposed to do, and I didn't even get the chance to HAVE A GO. That's all I'm asking for, and that's what seems so unfair.
Thanks for the info on caching. xx

That's a shame hun, you'd think some Tues nights would have been free :(

This is my first time i've ever tried for this and that whole process was as scary as hell!. Worth it in the end though.

I wanted and managed to get a midweek night (Weds) but to make it worse, it had to be a specific date as i already have train tickets 'pre-emptly' bought!

    xx

I wanted feb 3rd but when i looked it up after there was no availability even at full price - doh

oh well, enjoy your holiday :j

For me it worked much better this time. I nearly forgot about it, clicked on the site, clicked on the £1 sale button, got an error message, kept going back and reclicking about three times, tried a date, full, tried another, ok, filled in all my details the long way (but I type fast), kept waiting to be thrown out but got a confirmation page instead! Used firefox this time, maybe that made the difference?
    Reclaimed thanks to this site:
£175 Abbey Mortgage Repayment Fee, £170.03 Capital One Bank Charges £418.07 Lloyds TSB Bank Charges, £2,671.55 Mis-sold Endowment Policy, all for OH

It's no surprise that you've had caching issues then if you're on mobile broadband - it's even more important to reduce data transfer on a mobile network than on a fixed line network so the providers tend to use caching a lot.

A fairly reliable trick to get around caching outside of your control is to stick something random and unique on the end of the URL - this needs to be in the form '?xxx' where xxx is some random text. If there is already a question mark in the URL then use an ampersand (&) instead. What this does is make your ISP think you are requesting a new page so it bypasses the cache, but the gobbledygook doesn't mean anything to the website so it ignores it and just shows the normal page.

So in this case you would try going to http://www.hoxtonhotel.com/?stupidcaching the first time, then http://www.hoxtonhotel.com/?stupidcaching2 the second time, then http://www.hoxtonhotel.com/?stupidcaching3 etc.

Still waiting for normal Hoxton site to return so I can contact them direct. In the meantime, a little research...
For those of you who still think this is a good hotel...
Sinclair Beecham, who founded Pret a Manger, also owns this hotel. His slogan for it? "A no bullsh!t hotel". Charming. That wouldn't make you wonder about this man's standards?
He claims that Pret 'is obsessed with selling good natural food'. Who owns 33% of Pret, at a cost of £25m? McDonalds. That bastion of good, natural, ethically sourced food. McD's also say that they have an option to acquire the whole Pret chain.

Still think it's all it's cracked up to be?

:rotfl: You are actually making me laugh now with how pathetic you are being.

You had cache problems, you are now going to tell everyone how horrible this hotel is. Yet YOU are the one in a mood about not getting to book a room at this horrible horrible hotel? Mmmm makes perfect sense.

You are going to contact them and say what exactly? 'my internet made sure that I couldn't book one of your rooms'. It's all about luck, and you didn't have any today. Simple as that.
Just because you made a mistake doesn't mean you are a mistake.
  • Went for an obscure monday night in April , and got a 1 pound room ! Problem - they sent me two confirmation numbers for two bookings on the same night AAAGH ! - they might cancel both. ??
I have called Hoxton reservations direct and they say that their computer has not go all details through yet, but she said she would try to just cancel one. Fingers crossed that I am not black listed. THANKS FOR THE POST

Would you be this bothered about it had you actually been successful in getting a discounted rate room?

    Thought not.

You and another 200/300,000 people (including me) didn't get a room today. There is no point getting all sore about it.

You won't get anywhere complaining to the hotel that you couldn't get thru, because nor could anyone else who didn't get a room.

The 'no bulls*it hotel' is a concept.

This must be the 4/5th time this sale has ran, and people don't have a problem with it.

I assume you won't try this next time, but if you do (or any other similar sales), use a high speed broadband connection.
