Morning all
Feel so tired after taking DD's ceiling down y/day, my arms ache so much. Once it was down we could see that the roof has been leaking. Must phone around for quotes to refelt it.
Suppliers are delivering insulation, 8'x4' plasterboards and a bigger radiator this a.m. Didn't realise that it's so expensive saving money. At least DD's heating bills wont be so high.
After we finished clearing up I vacumed upstairs and stardroped the floor and changed their bedding, she is strugling now, 7 mths pregnant.
Made toad in the hole for DD2 and SiL2b's dinner then came home for a much needed shower as I was covered in fibreglass from the ceiling. Made us a chicken stirfry and put DD's bedding in WM.
Soaked lentils overnight so soup done for lunch. BM just about to ping Got some YS haddock chips and peas for our dinner and will do a roast chick dinner for DD, it can cook whilt DH and I put up the insulation.
We leave for our hols a week today so must sort out what to pack.
Hope it's a good day for all.0 -
Morning all
A bit nippy out there today. Still chained to the kitchen sink  waiting for part to arrive to repair DW. Insurance man coming at 9am to look at our kitchen floor which has lifted and needs replacing because of the DW flood, hope he's on time as my hairdresser is coming at 10am to cut and make all my silver threads disappearOS today isn't alot, apart from making shepherds pie for dinner.
Will be watching Obama being sworn in later, love all the pomp and ceremony. Was reading up about him and his parents, grandparents are all dead. How sad that none of them will be there to see him become President.
Have a good day all.0 -
Good morning all. N9eav - that's really shocking, not just that she was able to buy it under age but also that the retailers thought they could get away with it. Repeated across the country - and there's no reason to suspect it's any different elsewhere - it's no wonder we have such a problem with binge-drinking. That, and all night drinking, have a lot to answer for, and no doubt you and your colleagues have to deal with the fallout.
Daisy - as Coldstreamalways has said, root canal treatment is not as bad as some people say; I think it sounds worse than it is! When I was a dental nurse, patients always expressed surprise that it didn't hurt!
Well, this morning I have to go to the bank and I will NOT go into any shops because today is a NSD! It's also my DGS's 9th birthday - I can't believe it; seems like yesterday that his Mum and Dad were telling me they were expecting him, and I delirious with joy at the prospect. Nine years later he's brought such happiness to my life that I can hardly remember what it was like before he came along. I shall be feeling just as emotional on Friday when his sister turns 6. In twelve years time, we'll be celebrating his 21st and her 18th all in the same week - I think DS1 and DIL are saving up for that already!
Dinner tonight is leftover spaghetti bolognaise that I froze the last time we had it, so an easy dinner - I'll just put the pasta on as DH comes in the door.
I really should get the ironing done but I'm going to save that until tomorrow, when I'm home all day. There's not much to do but I'm just not in the mood!
I have some office work to do so I'll try and get that done and tidy the office at the same time.
The weather doesn't look to bad at the moment - just a bit cloudy. Still cool though. Like the rest of us, I shall be so glad when Spring starts to put in an appearance!
Oh, well, off to do some more chores
Have a great day and lots of (((hugs))) to all in need.

bargainbird Course I will. Quantities aren't usually my strong point as this is one of those recipies that I tend to go by looking rather than weighing.
For 3 of us I usually use 4 large potatoes,
1 small tub of cream and the same volume of full fat milk, if I use skimmed milk then I increase the cream quantity but tbh I dont think it matters.
1 garlic clove
1 thinly sliced onion (optional) we just like the added taste
small knobs of butter
salt , pepper and a 1/4 tsp nutmeg
grated mild cheese
Very thinly slice the potatoes and onions. Put the potatoes into cold water and bring to the boil and then drain quickly. Don't simmer for more than a minute.
Rub the inside of the baking dish with cut garlic and grease with butter. Layer
the potatoes, onions and a small sprinkle of cheese, season with salt, pepper and nutmeg and then layer the rest of the potatoes and onions and finish with potatoes.
Beat the cream and milk and pour over the potatoes. Finish with cheese and small knobs of butter.
I usually cook at 175 C for about 40 mins or till it has a lovely brown crust. To check to see if it is done pop a skewer through and if the potatoes are soft then it is done.
If you can't be bothered parboiling the potatoes just bake for an extra 45 mins or so.0 -
Morning All,
Freezing cold here this morning the snow that fell last night has frozen so it's very slippery out. DD & DS1 gone DS2 having his breakfast now then dh is walking him up to school & taking the dog to get him out. Not much doing here today as my cold has kicked up a notch & I'm feeling rotten. Not moaning though as there's much worse off folks out there.
Tidy round, swish kitchen & bathroom and unload maidens from yesterdays washing & put todays on. Tea is pitta pizza's, chips and/or salad & yoghurt for afters. I may make some spicy lentil soup for lunch if I can summon up the energy! Will also finish the shopping list off for tomorrow & sit and do some more cross stitch this afternoon. Put the hot water bottles in everyone's bed last night it was lovely getting in, so cosy!
Have a good day all ((((((((hugs))))))))) to all feeling ill or down.

Morning all,
N9eav that is shocking, my DS is 15 and looks at least 18, thankfully he isn't interested in alcohol but if he was it looks like it would be so easy for him to buy it.
I feel much better this morning, I actually have some money and a shop booked from Asda for tomorrow morning, so my cupboards won't look so empty any more.
Hope everyone has a lovely day.0 -

Sorry for got to say well done to your DD for taking part in that! and well done for you in letting her. When i was 16 there were a few shops local that we knew would serve us but we never went mad with it as some do and we never made any trouble for any old folks or anyone else as some do today.
I dont think that teenages are bad but the meda dose paint them in a bad way. and in the end if everyone thinks thay are bad then thay end up bad!!! it self forfills.
14 is really young to be served i hope that the shops lose there licence and get shut down.
All the very best to you and your DD
good luck:jYou can have everything you wont in lfe, If you only help enough other people to get what they wont.:j0 -
Morning All,
It's freezing here in West Yorkshire. I'm working from home, so trying to keep warm without having the boiler blasting out. One of my friends told me last night that she's spent £200 non gas in a month  and is panicking about how she's going to pay it.
Lunch today will be pasta I think, and I have stew ready for tea. Think I'll take the dog out for a brisk walk at lunchtime, to try and warm up!
Tonight I have to check DS' hair, as his childminder has told me that one of the children has nits
Hope everyone has a good day xDebts May 09 [strike]£100 Od[/strike], [strike]£1550 boiler[/strike], [strike]£1750[/strike] £400 credit card  Goal - to 3k of savings by Oct 2009 in time for Baby num 2 :j Total so far £12000 -
Mudgekin, thanks for the wishes and the giggles. I'm off work 'sick' so feel a little more relaxed. That would be if it wasn't for the fact that I have to drive ds into Manchester for an audition on THursday. Little things like that I find very stressful this time of year. At least I know the condition is time limited and by mid-end Feb I'll start and feel better again. In the meanwhile... am finding my SAD lamp a bit bright this morning
The aforementioned veg was swede and cabbage from the fridge. The carrots looked well enough to fight another day and there were already some in the mince.
Mixed swede 50-50 with potatoes, butter and pepper, was deemed delicious by the troops. did too much, mixed remainder with the cabbage and that is now ready for emergency veg, bubble and squeak in the freezer. DH isn't keen on plain potatoes at all, but tart them up and he's happy. Have a recipe for spicy potatoes from someone here, so will give that a try.
Mudgekin thanks also for the gratin recipe. wondering about a bit of curry paste or something in it. I do boulangere which uses stock. There is a programme on my combi microwave for gratins, but I haven't yet tried it. There is also one for cake ! not tried that either. This 'new' (well, over a year old) micro has a different selection of automatic programmes, with which I'm not yet familiar. Ought to be, as it's an economical way of cooking.
Need to walk to walk to the village today to get my boots fixed. Fancying a trip to Costco, but can't remember why. Can't be that important.
Haven't decided what to do to eat today, some lovely little mushrooms in the fridge that I will have in some white sauce for lunch. Dinner will be made from what we have in the house. Need petrol, so might call in Mr M later on to see if he has the beans that he has promised on offer!
Have a good day everyone, whatever you're doing.[SIZE=-1]"Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"[/SIZE]
