    Good afternoon everybody.
Not very OS here today although DH has done the ironing, he enjoys it so it would be mean not to let him do it lol.
I went for my torture, sorry treatment, this morning and then spent an hour booking a holiday. Got a really good deal, I can't believe it was so cheap but it's all booked and paid for now. The major annoyance was having to call Thomsons on their expensive number to ask for the disabled assistance. While I was talking to the girl I said how helpful they always are when they help me with wheelchairs and lifts etc. She was really surprised that I bothered to let them know this, people usually are quick to complain but slow to pass on praise.
On the subject of Mothers in law, my first one told me when we got married that she didn't like me but was happy if her son visited and she would invite me for tea when it suited her. This went on for years until one day she said she still didn't like me but I was a good wife and mother so maybe I was OK. It's a bit ironic that she outlived my DH and at the end of her life it was me who sat with her when she passed away.
Anyway, the washing had a good blow today and dried nicely. Pork steak with something for dinner, better get my creative head on.
Sybil, if Little Bear wants a virtual Granny I'm available.
Enjoy the evening, sorry for the essay.
  • Hello everyone

Just thought I'd drop in and say hi. Not having a particularly good OS day. Been lying on the sofa feeling sorry for myself. Took a stand against OH. He said he was going to do the washing up (for first time since around november...no joke!) on saturday, then sunday, then yesterday. Today has arrived and the washing up hasn't been done since friday when I did it. No spoons for a cuppa or anything. I hate it like this but OH has to realise that he can't just leave things.
At least I'm saving some money on water and washing up liquid!!
Watching the inauguration. Its pretty moving, especially Aretha Franklin singing, makes my spine tingle! Weird to think that this will be something that I'll be telling my children about in a few years, its something that is actually really important.

    Loving Aretha's hat!!!

All week we've been told that this was history in the making...yeah, yeah.. - but actually, come the moment, I really felt it was! Shivers down the spine time - I felt he really told it like it is.

  • I've just watched the inauguration too. Yes, today is a very special day in history but history itself will decide whether Barack Obama deserves to be remembered as more than just the first African-American president. I wonder if this young, undoubtedly clever and charismatic man has enough experience and determination to make the difference that so many people expect of him. This seems to be so much added pressure on top of the everyday pressures that other presidents have faced. I hope history is kind to him as he has broken through so many barriers to get to where he is today.

P.S. I didn't like Aretha's hat. Too over the top for my liking. Loved Elizabeth Alexander's poem though.

OS wise, changed my bedset, did two loads of washing, made the bolognese sauce, hoovered through the house, did a mini-shop, tidied the living room, cleaned the kitchen floor and cleaned the f/f. Managed to bag some bargains so the freezer is looking fuller too.

Wow what a lot of posts!
Popped in half hour ago and taken me this long to catch up.
Well, today I have been very money saving for our DD2, DH and I have been insulating her bedroom ceiling, the insulation has to be cut with a saw it's so thick and sandwiched with foil, managed to get 2/3rds done (double layered) It will save her loads on heating bills but has cost us a small fortune, we also had 6 (8'x4') plasterboard sheets delivered, they're so heavy, and a bigger radiator. Just hope we can get it all done in time.

MOGGINS, Can't you pinch something of his, erm err no, not what some of you will be thinking

BARGAINBIRD, Yup, yah nesting alright. ;)

AUSSIE, What a sad but lovely post about your feelings of the loss of your Dear Mum, How lucky I am to have my DMum. Must remind DDaughters of this:rolleyes:

TIRED MUM, Thank you for asking about DBs. DB1 is due a 3mth check up for the Prostate Cancer in 2 wks time. DB2 has been asked to go back to Hosp as the Melanoma that was removed a while back is looking a bit iffy. He has to go the day we fly off. Last week Dr. found another 4 growths, he is monitered every 2 wks. Endless prayers are being said 24/7. Bless for asking.:A

    Hello all,
I have been MIA for a few days, we have been at the hospital for most of them.
MIL was taken in at 9.15 Sunday morning with breathing difficulties, the carer had rung her doctor and he had rung for an ambulance, so we jumped in the car and by the time we got there it was 10.00.

After all the tests we found out she has fluid on the lungs,an irregular heartbeat and low blood pressure, which is very odd as she takes pills for high bp, and has done for years.
She was eventually taken in to a ward at 11.00PM, she had nothing to eat all day, but the doctor asked one of the nurses to go get her a sandwich. The nurses were so kind and looked after her so well, I cant praise them enough and the doctor she was so patient with her (at 88 she can be a bit cranky)

I have fish and chips in the oven, not very OS I know but we have been eating anything easy on the run for the last few days. When we eventually get home we are so tired we fall asleep.
All her washing is done now and the flat is spruced up and the sheets have been changed so when she does get out all will be ready.

My house looks like a tip  ah well it will get done sooner or later.
(((HUGS))) for all in need x

Just had a very nice barley risotto type thing that was actually too wet to be risotto so we had it in bowls and ate it with spoons with some bread. DS1 has eaten half a loaf -teenage boys:rolleyes:

I watched the whole of the inauguration, I love big events like that. Now I'm humming 'Sweet Land of Liberty' and wondering why it sounds so upbeat when sung to those words and so dirge-like when sung to our more familiar words:confused:

I'm a big fan of Obama, (have you noticed what beautiful hands he has?), he's a lefty too:j :j (left-handed I mean;) ) Ok, stupid reasons for liking someone.:o I like what he has to say mostly, I wasn't too sure about 'America being ready to lead again', I don't think we need leading do we?

I tell you what though, when will America have its first native American president? Now that would really be something.

I think dd is going to need another day off, she is better but not back to full speed and she looks so pale, poor little bean.

(((Hugs))) to Pippa's MIL and to Beth's family.

I watched the inauguration - I hadn't planned to, but got caught up in that 'history in the making' feeling. He's a very impressive speaker and I found his speech very moving and positive. Let's hope for better things for the USA and for the rest of the world, but time will tell.

The bolognaise is on and I've done pancakes for afters because I have a couple of lemons that need using up. Just need DH to come home now!

I've done some work and took a couple of hours off to do some knitting (and dozing!).

Hope everyone has a great evening.
