    Who is eligible?

The standard allowance was £529, and up to £1,048 if your child was born between 6 April 2002 and 5 April 2003.

You may be eligible to claim the relief for 2002-03 if all of the following conditions apply:
    • your child was born between 6 April 1986 and 5 April 2003
    • the child lived with you for all or part of 2002-03
    • you worked and paid tax for all or part of 2002-03
    • You earned over £6,000 in the 2002/2003 tax year
The allowance was usually given to the highest earning parent but the amount was reduced for higher rate tax payers (those earning £34,615 at the time). You may still be eligible if you were a higher rate tax payer though, depending on your income.

Remember Child Tax Credits are for the there for the benefit of minors, not adults. If you claim money now that you didn't orginally claim then it should be used for something like clothes for whoever was the qualifying child at the time.
  • hi, I'm someone else with an apparently impenetrable issue with this. And nobody will pick up any of the phones.
I phoned my old employer and someone not very confident told me what their tax office is. I believe it has changed since I was there - would it be ok to send it in to the one they told me? I had 2 jobs at that time - I don't know whether I should send a copy to each tax office? I would love to know whether the IR are obliged to deal with timely applications even if they don't get to the right office because it is impossible to get any advice on the phones - they are all too busy and the phones just cut off. It is so frustrating and after all if this tax allowance had been advertised perhaps we could have all claimed it earlier without the need for all this stress!
    Please can someone help???

    Hi all,

Just had a quick read on the notes about this and it says you can only claim for one child. I've got twins who were born in 2001 so is that right that I would only be able to claim for one of them?

    Crazy!!

    Thanks

  • Hi there everyone,
    I have a son born in 1991.
I managed to get through and I was told that I would qualify but as I am no longer with my ex I did not have his national insurance number. They said I should just write a letter explaining and they would sort ot out from there. (fingers crossed)
  • Hi
I downloaded & sent the form in Nov to the Leeds address as it was on Hmrc's website. I've since sent it again recorded delivery so I can prove it was sent, but after reading this thread I'm worried I should have sent it to my local tax office instead. Can anyone advise? Also, I'm asking for any rebate to go to my OH as he was working that year (I wasn't) so would the form go to his tax office/the tax office he was under in 2002?
    Thanks
Why choose to be right instead of happy when there is no way to be right? :cheesy:
  • Hi,

Has anyone had any luck with this one.

Have sent off my form last week as partners P60 does not end in h or t and it sayd £0 tax credits received.

Also I think I was only working part time then and didnt earn enought to pay tax.

Are we in with a chance??
    [STRIKE]September 2009 - £11000 owed, its gonna be hard going[/STRIKE]!:T

    [STRIKE]Halifax - £2500[/STRIKE] :T
    Halifax - [STRIKE]£8000[/STRIKE]. £4000 as of March 2014
  • Thankyou xxlaurissaxx for your response - it is still confusing though, as you said - I will send one to Leeds and then also one to the 'local' one - trouble is I'm not sure it is the right local one - for people who've moved jobs it's not very clear, is it? Good luck to all

  • I really is not a good idea to send it twice. You send the form to the tax office where the records are held now, for which ever parent was the higher earner, it could be anywhere in the country. If you have sent it to the wrong tax office I wouldn't worry, it will be date stampted for date of receipt & posted on to the correct one. It really is only a small minority of people that haven't received it already so I wouldn't worry too much anyway.
