  • Hi PocoLocoCoco, nice name. It's good you are looking out for your Father.

You need to send the form to his tax office where his SA record is held. You would use link three if he does not know which one.

Good luck, but you must understand that he is very likely to have had this allowance in 2002/2003, as most people have, especially if he was self employed at that time too, it will have been deducted from his payments that year.

I am sure there will be huge backlog judging by all the interest but that won't be a problem as they date stamp all the post on the date of reciept.

Just checking - in 2003 I wasn't working - my husband was, and we have since separated/divorced.
Presumably HE would get the rebate? If so I am NOT applying :rotfl:

If memory serves I do believe he had a tax code ending in H ***stamps foot*** so he's had it...

  • Bridjohns: If either the mother or the father were working that tax year & earning over £6000, then the answer is yes you can claim. Bear in mind that you might not remember from 6 years ago. See if you can find a notice of coding, a P60 or a P45 from the 2002-2003 tax year. If one of you had a tax code that was high and ended in H or T eg: 702H, then you will know that you have already received it.

I applied for this just before Xmas and as far as I knew, was entitled to the £1, 047 amount....got cheque this morning for £222.07. I called my local office and he said Childrens Tax Credit was actually a tax relief and the money we are getting/ applying for now, is the extra tax we paid.

Im still writing to query the amount though.

You should have been sent a calculation which gives you a breakdown of exactly how they calcuated the amount - along with the pay and tax figures they hold for you.
  • Typical I can find all my hubbys P60's except the one relating to 2002/03 Have downloaded a form and will get him to sign and send tomorrow recorded delivery as his tax office is Glasgow even though we live in east anglia(employers tax office) All they can do is write back and say he has already had it!! Nothing to lose. Thanks for all the info wouldn't have known where to start otherwise. I expect they'll need to take more staff on to cope with the influx of mail!!
Thanks to MSE savings we got to go to Disneyworld Florida.

  • My son was born in 1998, and both (now ex) husband and myself were working at the time, he was the higer earner. If I apply will he get the rebate, or will I?

  • Hello, I have left this all last minute. I've filled up the form on behalf of my father. I will get him to sign this evening.

My father is self employed and I've been looking for an address to send to.

So far I've come up with 2? I'm really stuck!! When I go here: http://search2.hmrc.gov.uk/kbroker/hmrc/locator/locator.jsp

    It gives me the options:
    1. Tax Offices for Individual tax enquiries
    2. Tax Offices for Employer enquiries
    3. Tax Offices for the Self-Employed enquiries
Now as my father is self employed I have no idea where to send it to, Do I go for option 1 or 3? I am really not sure, I would think 3 would be the obvious one however as it's CTC we are claiming I don't know if that would have anything to do with being self employed. Well it would be I'm clueless.

I'm sending the form recorded delivery (When I find an address) so I will have proof they receive it before the deadline, however what I'm worried about is that with this rumored 'backlog' it may not be opened or acknowledged until after the deadline which then they may just disregard the claim.

Any help around this would be appreciated, the quicker the better!
    Thanks xxx
Hi as your father was self employed he shouldn't fill the form in, he has to write a letter to his tax office saying that he wants to amend his tax return for that year because of an 'error'. Self employed people had to claim it on their tax return not through their PAYE code :rotfl:
