Can you claim Children's Tax Credit from 2002/3?

Call me cynical but I will send a copy to my husband's tax office even though I've sent one to the Leeds address already. Years of dealing with taxman/benefits has taught me that important mail never gets through, but somehow if they want to take money off you they always manage to do that!
If hmrc had publicised this better in the beginning, surely they would get fewer duplicate applications from people like me who were misinformed, and they'd have more time to get on with processing them!
I know they've tried to keep it quiet to reduce the numbers applying, but it does seem to have backfired.
Thanks for all the info, my husband's tax code was 461L for 03 so I'm hoping we're due something. Why choose to be right instead of happy when there is no way to be right? :cheesy:0 -
hi, just heard about this, son was born 1.09,1999, i was the main earner, do I claim for me or hubby?
And daughter born 24.04.2003 so cant claim for her.
ANd were do i send the forms?:A :j0 -
hi Karren
I'm no expert, but I have gleaned from this thread that you can only claim for one child anyway and that the application needs to go to the current tax office (important if you have changed jobs) which deals with the paye of the highest earner at the time in question.
I believe that if you have sent it into the wrong one they will date stamp and forward it. Good luck. I sent mine off today! Yay!Gala bingo wins £70!!! mystery shopping earnings: £0

If you were the main earner then you put in a claim to your current tax office. It will be on any paper work you have had from the tax office or you can ask your employer. Before you do check your P60 from the tax year 2002 /2003 to see if you tax code ended in T or H as you have probably had it already.0

It was advertised at the time. If you hadn't left it six years down the line you wouldn't be panicking about getting your form in.
They have not kept it quiet. It's the same as any other tax relief which you only have 5 years and 10 months to claim.0 -
woodpecker: As Chriiiiiiiis said, they didn't keep it quiet at all, as for the people not having recieved it, this is a small minority of people. They had no idea that they would get tens of thousands of people applying for it that have already had it.
All thanks to that dodgy tax agency & the tabloid press, people not remembering what they got 6 years ago & not understanding tax codes, or that this benefit was paid via the coding.0 -
found p60 for03 and it ends in H so i must have had what was due to me at the time, the one for 04 ends in L but hey theres no harm in checking as you never know!:A :j0

see the problem i have is that my boss never gave me my p60 for that year and i cannot for the life of me track him down to check his records, the tax office couldn't even find my tax/work record for that year so have had to fill in 3 different forms for this. I'm gonna be so annoyed if i end up losing out on this due to my ex employer not filling in his paperwork.0 -
I sent mine off just before Christmas, I have read that other people have received a letter saying that their application has been received but I haven't had anything. Should I panic?xxx Nikki xxx0
