thanks, i just assumed they may do alphabetical as the government did when they sent out my grandmas christmas bonus! i guess i should stop assuming lol.

i don't think my ex received it as he never told me he had, my friend had told me to apply for tax credits at the time but i didnt as i didnt think we could claim with him not being his father, of course i know now that we could've, but my point is he would have said he'd received this and prompted us to apply for tax credits, i'd be very peeved if i found he got it and my son didnt benefit from it!!

    well keeping everything crossed xx
  • I sent my form off week before the deadline to my local tax office, still haven't received anything, and when I rang to request an update the bloke on the phone was not very helpful and said there was no way of telling if they had even received my form! Anyone else had this sort of problem with HMRC? Not knowing is killing me!
  • Realised after i sent mine in mid Jan, that i claimed for my son born in 2000, but should really have put down for my son born sept 2002, do u think they will look up on the system, names and dob of all my kids? beacause for what i have read i could get the £1000 rather that the £500? anyone have a theory or done the same?
  • Mumof5boys. The will be looking at your & the kids father's tax codes, for the year 2002/2003, to see if you already had it. Children are not mentioned on your PAYE records held by HMRC.

I don't know if it will work, but you could write an additional letter to the relevant tax office, giving both your & the father's National Insurance numbers & the details of your son born Sept 2002. Just head it additional information for 2002/2003 tax credit claim.

It is just a theory, I don't know if it will work, but it is surely worth a bit of time and a stamp, after all if you are entitled, and you did get the claim there in time maybe they will add this.

angeleyes32: I am not sure how they know who is entitled to the Christmas bonus, it must be from some sort of list of pensioners that prints off. Isn't it the DWP that deals with that? This is being dealt with by letters received by HMRC, tens of thousands of them in crates.
don't think my ex received it as he never told me he had,
Don't forget we are only talking about a change in tax code here, to a higher one, giving him more disposable income per week/month. You might not remember your ex discussing tax codes with you six years ago! However, I do think the chances are that he didn't get it though, so hopefully you will qualify.

nikkistevens: If your claim is still sitting in a crate with thousands of others ,waiting to be worked, they will have no way of knowing it's there, until they get around to doing it. You will just have to be patient & wait for them to get around to it.
  • I have just had my claim rejected "due to the level of my income". My understanding was that you had to have earned more than £6000 in 2002/3 which I did.

I called the Tax Office and they said they had received many calls about this and no-one there seems to know what if any is the upper limit on earnings. They do not have any printed guidance either.

I have requested some evidence to support their disallowance of my claim.

    Watch this space!!
  • I got a letter today to say I'd had it already, but when I phoned back in December they said I hadn't :(
  • MBH: Someone posted this link explaining how it was worked out earlier:
    http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/news/ctc.htm

toadyfrog: That's a shame, if it was over phone they could do nothing else but give you record for tax year 2002/2003 a quick glance. It looks like when they have gone into into in more depth after getting your form & looked at both parents records they have found it.
  • comisserations to all those still waiting, hope you get some soon, or at least hear one way or the other.
A week ago I got a confusing letter which seemed to indicate we were due £17 but it really wasn't clear - could have said we owed £17:p

But good news today - a cheque arrived for 336.50 in my hubby's name. When I made the application I said we would split it equally (not sure why - think it was cos I was the one doing the forms! It all goes into the joint anyway! So I'm wondering whether there is another on the way in my name! Still a nice surprise this morning!
Good luck all and thanks for your help, this site is a lifesaver!:j:j:j

  • I am still waiting to hear, I sent my form off of early jan. I sent it to a bedford address I think apparantley the place where they processed the claims, I have heard nothing though and wondering why, probably mine was the one they lost!!
Does anyone have an address for them or a phone number so I can contact them?
    Thanks

yummymummy82: As said before many times on here, the claims are processed at which ever tax office your records are held. If you sent your claim to Bedford & your (or the children's father's tax record, assuming he was living you in 2002/2003) is not there, it will have been date stamped & posted on to the correct office.

You will need to look at your latest, notice of coding, P60, payslip etc to see which tax office your current employer uses.

If your claim is still sitting in one of the many tax offices around the country in a crate waiting to be processed, they will not be able to tell you anything over the phone anyway. If they can look at your record & see notes about it, then it your reply will be imminent so it's probably easier just to wait.

Anyway you have already rang your local tax office, as you mentioned on another thread you should have the number.
