How long do you think we should give it before I contact to see if i was entitled to it? I sent it off before the dead line, but i don't want to tie-up an operator dealing with me, if i should wait a feww more weeks?? Thanks0

we sent our form to our local tax office, the address which was on the back of my husbands payslip (in wales even tho we are in the south) which it was advised to do as it said on the form......
i sent mine off about 20/1 so will it be several weeks before we hear anything??? iis it being sorted on a first come first served basis????
i get all excited when i see the postman has been.. and then go flat when i don`t see a brown envelope....lol
thanks

Hi Skint! we sent off our form recorded to the west hampshire office based in manchester(strange but true!!) We sent this on the 22nd of jan and received a cheque on fri 20th of feb.I too was looking for a brown envelope every morning for about a week and then it arrived in a white envelope! But i dont think it matters when and where you sent your form as my friend and i sent our forms to the same office on the same day and received cheques a week apart. So good luck and hope you experience the sheer excitement that we had when we received ours!:j0

I sent my form off around the week before Christmas to the Leeds office and still not heard anything and I have a sinking feeling that I accidentally underpaid on the postage.
Possibly this may mean that they would never have got the forms?:sad:0 -
Hi adea,
HMRC gets lots of post with unpaid postage, they wouldn't refuse to take it, so that would not be the cause of the hold up. The claim form on the internet printed off with the box missing for the National Insurance number.Tax payers records are accessed by their NI number, so if that was not on, they might have trouble tracing your record, that is the most likely cause of a hold up. Also unless your tax records are currently held at Leeds it will have been forwarded on to your tax office.
It has been a long time in your case, it could just be that it is a more complicated one,as unless the claim is from someone who was a single parent in the 2002/2003 tax year, they will have to look at both parents records to see if either parent received it at the time.
You could try calling your tax office which will be on your payslips, notice of codings, P60's etc. They might have made a note on your record of recieving it & what action is being taken.0 -
Hi
I sent off my form first class on the 26th January to the Middlesborough tax office just by chance after reading this forum. Last Friday i was sent tax calculations for the years 2002-2003 and 2003 -2004, no cheque was sent with information from the tax office.
Today i have just come home to a cheque to the value of £792.00
Many thanks to whoever it was who relayed this information.0 -

Please don't be put off! Some people are being very mardy about this whole topic and for whatever reason they seem to be coming across as quite rude! They shouldn't be a reason not to use MSE. There are many more very helpful people on here. Please stay!
Thanks for your message, not feeling my best at mo and confidence knocked quite easily so I was quite upset by that original post. Thank you for your kind words.:D0 -

I sent mine off to Leeds office the week before Xmas as advised by my local tax office and I have yet to hear anything either. I was a single parent at the time too so no complications from getting details from anyone else.0
