Can you claim Children's Tax Credit from 2002/3?

thanks cybermum I sent my form roughly the same time as you so fingers crossed, am i right in thinking that this is all being dealt with by a central office now? I'm wondering how they are working out the amounts- I have figured that if your child was born 2002/03 then you may be over £1000 better off but born before that it appears to drop. at the moment anything is a bonus.
Yes as far as I am aware and could gauge by phone conversations one office is dealing with all forms.
Hopefully you will hear back very soon
And anything is a bonus,I was so happy to receive that cheque this morning0 -

hm71: No, they are dealt with by the tax office that currently holds the claimants tax records. If they have been sent to the wrong office they are forwarded on to the one where the records are held.0 -

HMRC (we were then the Inland Revenue) also ran extensive press and TV advertising and for new claimants the new mothers' Bounty Pack had claim forms included."

no disrespect but i assume you work or worked for hmrc so i see why you defend it, however I did not receive a mail shot - nor did my sister who has just received a cheque forover £1000 - so this campaign they ran was not good enough0 -
Sent off my form week before Xmas to Leeds office and then another to Leeds and local tax office last week of January by registered post (JUST IN CASE!!) and still haven't heard anything0

Well sending in claims twice, is exactly the sort of thing that causes more delays, along with all the people claiming it who have already had it. As long as you had your National Insurance number clearly marked on the form & you are sure your tax records are now held at Leeds, then it should be soon.
My other half was working in the post room of a tax office & they received over 2800 claims in one day. 2800 claims in one day, in one office alone! gives you an idea of the volume received. He saw claims from people who weren't even in the country in tax year 2002/2003, claims from people earning over £55000 that year etc0 -
Hope someone can help me with this query.
I sent in the Children's Tax Credit claim form and yesterday received a form from the Revenue asking me for Employment Details for 2002/03. I rang the Tax Office this morning and queried why they needed me to complete the form when it would all be on my self assessment form for that year.
On hearing that I completed a self assessment tax return for that year they replied that in that case the original claim form I used to claim this was not applicable and that instead I needed to write a letter asking for my self assessment tax return for that year 02/03 to be adjusted to take account of the claim for tax credit and include details such as my childs date of birth, confirm that she lived me with the whole year, my ex husbands NI number.
Does anyone else have experience of this ? I have not seen it mentioned anywhere that if you filled in a Self Assessment Tax Return for that year then the procedure is different0 -
Hi loobs40, it was advised on here, but which one of the threads & on which page, I can't remember now, I think it was by someone working at the tax office, but there has been so many posts on this subject. I don't really know what you are asking, if you think you didn't receive it through your SA then do as they ask & send the info off to them ASAP. The tax office dealing with your claim know better than anyone else what they need to process it. Most people got it through their PAYE tax code but as you were not PAYE, you should have had it through your SA, so that is the way to claim it retrospectively.0

Thanks, The tax office chap I spoke to said looking at my SAtax return I had not claimed it for that year, so that's why I needed to send off the letter to them.
I guess I assumed everybody filled in self assessment returns, but it turns out its actually quite a small percentage of the populateion that do so, especially as far back as 2002/030 -
