i also sent mine on 29th jan to leeds office, i rang the office yesterday to see if they had any updates, she said they had received an email to say if you hadnt heard anything by 10th april to contact them to chase up your claim.

she said they were inundated with claims, but that when the claims came in they weren't opened just stamped for the date they received them, they then get opened in date received order, and are dealt with one at a time, i assume they will be looked at in alphabetical order of surnames, but she didnt say that.

she therefore couldnt say if they had received mine or not, its really stressing me out as most people know they will eventually get it but i don't, i checked before i sent the claim and i haven't received it prev, but i was with an ex partner at the time, and he wasnt my sons father, i know he wont have claimed, but don't know if i will get it or not. my friend who works for the police said it goes to the parent as its for the child, but everywhere i look it says the highest earner, he would've only earned slightly more than me, so wouldnt be fair if i he got it!! we split in april 2003, so not sure A; if they got the claim and B: if im entitled! so really peeved!

hope you get yours soon x
  • anngeleyes32. There is no way they would spend the time sorting all the claims into alphabetic order, it would take ages, it would serve no purpose, and they could get loads more processed in that time. The money is for the child/children so if your ex- didn't receive it in 2002/2003 there is no way he can claim it now ,as it wouldn't get passed on to your child. Your ex wouldn't have needed to claim this benefit, it was given to most tax payers with children in the family, automatically.

They will have got the claim, you just need to be patient and hope your ex wasn't awarded it in 2002/2003,

I'm worried this is going to happen to us too. I only saw this on here 29th January and we filled it out that night and posted on the 30th which was a Friday. I thought I'd send it anyway we definitely had no info on this before. We were living abroad the first few months of 2002. We had three small children then and my husband was sole earner and worked hard. It makes me cross to think that he may have overpaid taxes and not be able to get it back.

My only hope is that it said to be sent by 31st January and we did send on 30th and get proof of posting however your message has made me even more doubtful now as they may not have received it by 31st.

I got mine today! £601.44 very pleased and very useful as dp is a self-employed roofer with very little work.

I actually took mine into the local tax office so that I knew they had it. They then forwarded it on to the appropriate office.
