Can you claim Children's Tax Credit from 2002/3?

Hi
I sent my form off beginning of Jan,not received anything yet?
When did those of you who have got there payments send your form off?
Thanks0 -
Well sending in claims twice, is exactly the sort of thing that causes more delays, along with all the people claiming it who have already had it. As long as you had your National Insurance number clearly marked on the form & you are sure your tax records are now held at Leeds, then it should be soon.
My other half was working in the post room of a tax office & they received over 2800 claims in one day. 2800 claims in one day, in one office alone! gives you an idea of the volume received. He saw claims from people who weren't even in the country in tax year 2002/2003, claims from people earning over £55000 that year etc
Well, I do apologise for delaying all your claims. I know that I have not already received the allowance as I checked with my local tax office, so I can't be blamed for that one yet!
As far as sending duplicate copies ,I have learnt from a previous experience in dealing with HMRC that things 'get lost', plus conflicting information on where to send the form and I certainly can't afford to miss out on any money owed to myself.
I thought that these boards were meant to be supportive not to make you feel like a child. Won't be posting again.:(0 -

Please don't be put off! Some people are being very mardy about this whole topic and for whatever reason they seem to be coming across as quite rude! They shouldn't be a reason not to use MSE. There are many more very helpful people on here. Please stay!2014 Challenge...

no disrespect but i assume you work or worked for hmrc so i see why you defend it, however I did not receive a mail shot - nor did my sister who has just received a cheque forover £1000 - so this campaign they ran was not good enough
I work for HMRC now though I didn't in 2001/2002 when the Childrens Tax Credit allowance was brought in but I clearly remember my husband receiving the mail shot back then. We queried it because of the removal of the married couples allowance around the same time.
The Inland Revenue were a government department which collected taxes then. They weren't the Tax credit and Child Benefit paying organisation that they are now. So in the normal course of their annual coding they sent out the mailshots to the taxpayers about the new allowance and advertised in the media.
I can site many reasons why some people didn't get it and they include problems still occurring today - out of date addresses, Inland Revenue not being aware the taxpayer was actually in employment, people not bothering to respond to the mailshots and of course some people being left out.
Our processing teams are currently working on batches of 50 at a time and they are finding that only 3 or 4 of those in each batch haven't received it and it is being paid to them now. The rest have either already got it or weren't actually working at that time and so don't qualify.
I know you said no disrespect at the beginning of your post but you obviously think it's the Revenues fault but I don't see what else the Revenue could have done back then bar knock on every door.
Every week I deal with people who come in angrily to query their code or to chase up a claim for a refund of tax and many times delays have been caused by their failure to respond to letters sent out by HMRC. They expect HMRC to have a crystal ball and know when they moved house or they expect their employer to have informed us. It doesn't seem to have entered their head to inform HMRC themselves.
You wouldn't believe how many come in to ask about a letter they have recieved and when I ask them what it's about they tell me they don't know because they haven't even opened the envelope:eek: . What about people taking a little bit of responsibility for their own affairs? Why do so many people expect to be spoonfed?
I'm not saying HMRC don't get it wrong but it isn't always their fault.
This forum is a huge jump in the right direction in getting people mobilised to educate themselves and others and ultimately take control/responsibility for their own affairs.

pink princess: Nobody is getting 'compo' for anything, they were asking for people that might have missed getting the credit to put in for it before it was too late. The tax records for 2002/2003 are soon to be deleted from the records, so people were told this was their last chance. As child tax credit for 2003/2004 was not paid through people's tax codes it has no relevance to this thread.
90% plus of people were receiving it in 2002-2003 through their salary or SA, only a tiny minority didn't know about it.Life is short, smile while you still have teeth0 -
I told around 40 couples of this not one of them were aware of this .
Please provide a source for the 90 % .Life is short, smile while you still have teeth0
