  • help please!! hi,

really nice to hear most of you are receiving your money.
im wondering if anyone can advise me as im a bit confused by all this.

my son was born 1994 so i qualify on that basis, i was working full time in 2002/03 and was living with an ex partner, he was not my sons father, and therefore child benefit was paid to me and even though we lived together i paid for anything to do with my son, i always have, his own father has never paid for him and so i don't feel its fair anyone else should accept me.

we both earnt about the same, i sent a letter at the end of january, id called the tax office and it was confirmed that i hadnt received it, but im worried he will get it which i don't see as fair seen as he wasnt his father.

ive tried to see if anyone else is in my situation but everyone else was married or living with the childs father, so im no wiser!

i called for an update yesterday and the lady at the tax office said my details didnt match? but they did a couple of weeks ago- weird?! anyway said i had to send a letter for any further information as she couldnt discuss my information, was she fobbing me off?

anyway any advice would be helpful, hope many more of you get your money ok, incl me! need to pay debts off!! lol

hi i posted this message last week, can anyone give me any advice? i've still not heard anything from hmrc
thanks any advice would help x
  • hi, just wondering if ne1 can give me the number to chase up my claim, was posted start of jan but not heard, stupidly didnt sent recorded so want to check that they recieved it.
  • I did read on another thread that they have a huge backlog and that it will take 8-10 weeks for people to be informed(so about start of new tax year).
I sent mine at end of Jan so not really expecting to hear anything before end of March .

    HTH :)
  • I rang too and they couldn't tell me anything because of sheer volume of forms that have arrived.
  • I just got my post and received a cheque :)
    £351.00 :)
Thanks to the OP who started the thread about this, the money will come in very handy right now :)

thanks cybermum I sent my form roughly the same time as you so fingers crossed, am i right in thinking that this is all being dealt with by a central office now? I'm wondering how they are working out the amounts- I have figured that if your child was born 2002/03 then you may be over £1000 better off but born before that it appears to drop. at the moment anything is a bonus.

Hi ( i apologise if I have posted in the wrong place)

I was wondering if anyone was experiencing similar problems with claiming child tax benefit for 2002/03? I spoke to my local tax office in december and after giving my husbands NI number the helpful man confirmed we had not received this allowance and we were due a rebate. He requested I send in a letter giving specific information and said a chq will be in the post after xmas.
I sent this letter on the 04.12.08. Xmas came and went with no chq so I phoned my tax office again. I asked if they could at least confirm they had received our letter and when we will be receiving chq. The lady I spoke to said she was unable to do that and best advice you could offer was to send letter again recorded delivery so I did this was on the 06.01.09.
I just phoned up my tax office again to see what was happening and the lady I spoke to said she is unable to give me any information other than a letter should be going out to claimants and if we dont receive it by april we should call back then. GRRRRRR! i dont think they would be so unhelpful or relaxed if I owed them 1000+++

Whahhayy - My husband got a chq today for 1194.64!!! i take it all back!

None of us on here can tell you that, we would need to know who was the higher earner in that tax year you or a partner & whoever it was where their tax records are held now. Whichever tax office deals with the company you/they are employed by now. If you find the right tax office they might not be able to tell you anyway as they might not have processed it. You are better off just waiting. If you sent it to the wrong office in the first place, it sounds as if you might have, as you don't know which one it is now, it will have got held up being sent on.
  • angeleyes32: I think no one is answering you question as know one knows. Yours is complicated, I guess only someone working in the tax office on these claims would know. My guess is that your then partner would have been entitled to it in the 2002/2003 tax year as you were all living together as a family. I do not see how he would be able to claim it retrospectively so if he didn't get it then, then you must be entitled. This is just my opinion.

If they said they want further information then just send it off to them ASAP ,making sure you have your NI number clearly marked.
