bear1 wrote:thinking of morals, that Dann mentioned earlier, as i said to my OH last night, if i was a Tesco checkout person i can honestly say if i spotted misprices going through the till, i would tell the customers to go and get a refund at the cs desk as per the policy, maybe i would get the sack, i don`t know, maybe Tars could answer that. But if i did it would not matter as i would be happy knowing i had helped people not be ripped off and quite frankly i would not feel comfortable working for a company where i know this is happening unless i was able to let the customers know about it.
I very much doubt the checkout staff have any idea. By the tone of your post I am led you believe you think the mispricing is intentional??Auntie Savingsgirl 24/9/06 :j0 -
got the motorola phone this morning, result as daughter wants a phone, but the thing that shocked me was the same guy that told me my guarantee on my tv a while ago was useless because of r&r said this morning that my 12mth guarantee stands but they would only exchange the phone not refund if faulty! so has tesco staff been given some correct information for a change on how to handle r&r's hmm:dance: " i wanna be the minority! " :dance:0

with the thousands of people who read these posts there are probably some checkout staff out there, however i was merely saying what i personally would do if we are talking about morals, i could not sit there and watch loads of customers go through the tills paying more than they should have without saying anything to them and that is what ALL Tesco staff and security do but then they get grumpy when somone wants an r&r, that i beleive is because they work for Tesco and cannot get r&r themselves and simply dont want others to benefit as they can`t, obviously this is not the case with all Tesco employees and security (grumpiness and jealousy) and there are posters on here such as Tars who work for Tesco but are actually extremely helpful towards us r&r`ers, and i do not beleive Tesco do it intentionally either as i was saying last night in the discussion, i beleive it is some human error and some incompetence. :beer:0 -
I do agree that people who take an excessive amount of items that are overpriced are more than a little greedy.
But Tescos bulk buying policy is also open to picking holes in.
I got an R&R on 4 packs of chicken a few weeks ago. The CS bod said I could only have 2 as they had a `bulk buying policy` which he duly pointed at on the wall.
`Fair enouugh` I said " do I have to have a refund on these beans as I`ve bought 4 tins of them as well. same goes for the cat food - i`ve got 8 tins of that here."
`Well of course not` he replied "so why can`t I have an R&R on the 4 packs of chicken then? And if thats the case can you come with me and tell every customer at the till to put back any items they have more than 2 of?"
Of course he just stood there going bright red with embarressment.
I know why they bulk buy policy is there & so does he but if you are going to have a policy of any description then make it plain & stick to it. The trouble arises when the arguement is as watertight as a paperbag.0 -
bear1 wrote:Hi Tars,
can i ask, do your family and friends shop in Tesco, and if so have you warned them about mispricing?
Nope. I shop at Tesco and my relatives shop at tesco. Although peoples habits could fill up a forum in itself suffice to say when shopping the primary concern on buying each item isnt the price. Obviously if an item is insanely overpriced compared to the other options it matters but not on the vast majority of day to day lines. When I buy a loaf of bread I buy the type I like rather than compare all the prices and pick up the most suitably priced one. As such I don't tend to pay alot of attention to the price. If I'm buying something more expensive then I do tend to keep an eye on the price but I've never been overcharged on those items and I'm sure if my relatives were overcharged I would hear about it. Am I lucky in that my shopping is more focused around what I would like than what I can afford? Yep and I'm thankful for that.
As you asked for my opinion (and I'm not sure if I'm being baited again). The mistakes that cause people to be overcharged does annoy me. I take an interest in all this because I work for the company named in this thread and I take pride in my work although I'm not directly involved in whats discussed here. What does annoy me more though is the importance some people attach to this issue (and I'm not totally innocent in this). There are a million things going on in the world and make this issue seem trivial. People are dying from hunger, over 100 British families have lost relatives in the conflict over in Iraq, today on the road I use to get to work a guy on a motorbike was hit by a lorry and I have no clue whether he survived. There are people who will give up everything they own to travel with only the clothes on their back to get to England, the US etc to try and have the kind of lives you all have. Every one of these people would love for the most important problem in their world to be that they got overcharged on their shopping this week. Does that mean overcharging should be ignored? Nope certainly not. Could we all do with abit of perspective on this... Maybe.

:T Bravo :T Bravo :T ...
... completely agree.
Its an issue. Tesco shouldnt overcharge. When they do, they should just accept it and move on. But its the context of things ...0 -
I checked at my local store for the R&R's people mentioned but didn't see any of them. I did spot a new one though PG Tips 80 had two lables one at 1.40 and the other at 1.43. I noticed the 1.43 one had the higher bar code on the end (and hence was the latest price). I pointed out to CS staff, she went to look then credited me back 1.43 - only took one as only really needed one, but nonetheless felt quite pleased I spotted it. I'm sure if I hadn't read this website I wouldn't have ever noticed unless it was a really obvious price difference as normally I just sense-check the bills and check BOGOF's go through correctly.Titch0

Post this in the misprices thread instead of the discussion :-)0 -

i agree totally, and that is why i think the grumpy Tesco staff and security should leave the poor customers alone who are just looking out for themselves as no one else is going to.I am glad you can and are thankful for the fact you don`t have to watch how much you spend and can just get what you like without concern for the cost, some of us are not so lucky and although it is not as bad as people dying of hunger we still have our own little lives and our children to think about and watching what we spend and ensuring we are not being ripped off ensures we can pay our mortgage, get out of debt, stop depression, feed our children and buy them new clothes. It makes all the difference.0
