I still and will always have the urge to go RRing. We're saving up for a holiday.
great stuff! And carry on looking after you and your family`s interests as nobody else will (especially Tesco`s) :T0 -
bear1 wrote:i work in retail so know a little about security as in my job, the staff are the security as well, but i am not trained or anything on all the ins and outs. its just i find it terrible that security personnel are following around people looking for an r&r (which is not against the law) when there are real criminals out there such as shoplifters that they should be worrying about, and they are the ones that really affect the tescos staff shares etc as read previously in a discussion about r&r affecting the staffs shares which is why they may sometimes be grumpy with r&r`ers
Your probably right - i must admit though when i have been looking for R&Rs (haven't been successful yet) i always feel well dodgy writing down the prices and then checking them on the scanners - i would be very put off if a security person suddenly started following me - that would stop me trying to r&r for sure. I suppose this is tescos intention.:rotfl:Red Hot by name, Red hot by nature. :rotfl:0 -
spa2k wrote:Ok, was the SEL yellow or white. If it was yellow (and if it is the ACER laptop that you have then it will have been) then there is a crossout price and an actual price. The actual price has been reduced by 20% of the usual selling price. Nowhere does it say "discount applied at till".
I could apply the argument to any line that is on a money off promotion. The discount is normally applied and shown on the SEL, it is a rare event for the discount to be taken off at the till. The entertainment was one such rare event - and as such the POS stated that the discount would be applied at till. It may sound like all tesco sticking together, but the previous weeks pos really did say "Discount applied at checkout"., i will see if i can dig a copy out that i can take a picture of....not sure if we have any left though, we tend to throw them away at the end of promotion.
From a stores perspective, i would say that in my opinion you dont really have much of an argument. Any store (not just tesco) has the right to apply discounts however they choose. If you hadnt have visited tesco and bought a CD the week previously then you would have been none the wiser as to the difference between the way in which the two discounts were applied.
In respect to the return of the item, you can return it to ANY store for a refund providing you have proof of purchase or a store stocking the same product for an exchange.
Thanks for your reply spa2k.
The SEL was a yellow one with two prices crossed through and one price remaining showing £398.40 (but nowhere mentioning the 20% off deduction).
I still believe that as the discounts have been applied inconsistently from one week to the next, they cannot meet the legal requirement of "clear and unambiguous". I do however appreciate your argument and feel that I would have to fight long and hard to prove my point and simply have more important things in my life to be getting on with!
I'm glad that I can return the laptop to a different store. It's likely that I will keep the laptop so does the same appy should I need to return it to a store to be repaired should it develop a fault (as covered by the one-year warranty)?
Thanks!0 -

i know what you mean, but you should not feel you are doing anything wrong by using the scanner and you shold not be MADE to feel that by security or staff, as spa2k said earlier the scanners are there for the customers to check prices, so really they should just leave us to do exactly that then. If i had security or staff follow me i would be inclined to tell them to go and look for some REAL criminals!!0 -

also if it is Tesco`s intention then they have got their priorities way off, if i was a tesco manager i would be looking for shoplifters, people with dodgy cards and dodgy staff members, these are the people that directly affect tescos profits as all losses from these sources go directly to their bottom line, at least r&r`s though getting the items for free bother to take it through the till so then tesco`s can take this into account when a stocktake is done.0 -
I nearly always use one of my clubcards when buying items that may include refunds. If you get an R & R they don't take the points away from you!
I don't care whether they can see if I have received a refund or not as I am doing nothing wrong. I have even told CS staff that I look for errors and if Tesco stop making them I'll stop finding them! Why lie? One thing is for sure my clubcard points are rocketing!
For anyone waiting for the Xbox game refunds I have been told by a manager that they are still awaiting "legal guidance" from HO but he stated that it is looking favourable. He cannot see how they can refuse!Keep SmilingSite member number 24

I bought a Digital camera in the current promotion which ends Tuesday. The SEL was white, most of the SEL's on the other cameras on the display were yellow showing crossed off prices. I rang Tesco H.O. to check why the 20% discount had not been implemented. They put me on hold ( as they checked it out with store I had bought it from) and confirmed all yellow tickets there are in the promotion, all white ones are not.
Revisited the store today armed with Friday's newspaper advert from Express which clearly states ALL digital camera, lap tops & Sat navs 20% off. Took some photos of display(not with new camera but Tesco disposable) before I went to CS. Duty manager agreed after looking at WHITE label and advert that I had been overcharged and said would refund me the 20% discount. I pointed out R & R policy but was refused full refund as he said SEL was not incorrect. Stalemate, as I said I think SEL is incorrect. Told him I would take it up with Trading Standards tomorrow. Any advice, I think I have a watertight case.0 -

If someone is honestly using a price checker for its original purpose and not to check for mispriced items to ‘R&R’ then they wouldn’t have anyone following them. However if you did come into the store with the intention to do fraudulent returns then you should expect a burly chap standing behind you and escorting you from the store if you attempt it. You know what you’re doing is wrong so don't complain when Security come to do their jobs.0 -

I know i am going off thread a little bit but , i totally agree with the r&R, and anyoner who wants to utilze it, i used to shop in asda and week after week the brand of coffee i bought would always be 31 p out ,(you only get £2.00 refund at asda) how many people did not notice each week i would compain constantly but it was very easy attitude towards it ?
Also at Ikea we were overcharged £9.00 on a item we got the £9.00 back but as hubby was pointing out the error in store he noticed that a huge crate was only 1/4 full and also loads more were taken from another crate.
If these stores had to pay full wack back then they may make their staff be a bit more vigilant,
I always check my reciept but how many people dont or say "oh its only 31p " and cant be bothered to wait in the cust services.
I beleive the people who are doing the r&r anre actually doing customers a service
As for the point staff dont like it cos their profits are down, only 1 thing to say , sort it out and get the prices correct in the first place, profits ? how much of the profits a company make are from overcharging Bet it comes to lot more than the small amount given out for r&R
I was at Asda yesterday and after paying noticed that the one item the cashier couldn't scan so had to manually key in she made a mistake on the price. It should have been 1.04 for smalk beef but charged me 1.49. I went to CS and was quite happy just to get the difference (as has happened to me in Morrisons once or twice) and they credited me back the whole amount and gave me it for free.
Do Asda do an R&R as well as Tesco or is it just limited to £2 as in the above post by cheapskate? Also what about Sainsburys and Morrisons - anybody know their policies?Titch0 -

What is so fraudulent about obtaining R&R however identified?
It is more fraudulent for tesco to misprice goods and overcharge on a sytemic level.0
