Well done Simply. It sounds like you really enjoyed it and, dare I say, might become as addicted as the rest of us. ;)

  • Thanks for the replies everyone!!!

Rich - I didn't set out to go faster. I think that I was so afraid of not getting round that I just went for it and kept pushing until I'd finished :o

Now that I know that I can do it then I can hopefully relax a bit and take it easier. (I am buzzing a bit tho lol)

Cant remember when i last posted in here last week i think. Did 12 miles sunday in a little over 2 hours, shorter than intended but i was knackered probably as my heating was bust and i'd been cold. Monday i did 5 miles out in the snow to keep/get warm before BG came to fix the boiler. Tuesday ret day. Yesterday 3.5 miles nice and easy plus ran home from work last night which was another 1.5 miles. Then today well see below.

Tempo Thursday and equalling 5k PB during the run
Out for my weekly speed session this morning shortly after getting up at 10 and as it was cold i thought instead of a fartlek session a tempo run would be better instead. Plan was a mile warm up then aim for 8:30ish pace for about 3 miles then about a mile warm down. Was gonna use a route i know to be about 5 miles but erm i changed route and inadvertantly discovered one which has a nice 5k ish section.
First mile was done more or less at 8:30 pace then discovering the second was somewhat faster despite the main climb i opened up some more for the third mile as well as deviated from the intended route as that one drops down hill a lot more. Still have the main road to cross which can be a problem.
    Anyway onto the splits
    Warm up mile 9:35 then
    8:25
    8:10
    7:48
0:59 for last 0.13 miles 7:30 pace roughly
Warm down 0.64 miles in 6:41
Total tempo run 3.13 miles in 25:22. Now the best thing is fetch says this predicts a 25:10 5k time which happens to be my 5k PB. Now i know i could of pushed harder, espcially at the start of the tempo session but even a bit more later on so i hae a feeling my sub 25 shot for a 5k (whenever this'll be) is probably gonna be relativly easy. I also find it easier to push hard when there is someone to chase.

    Hi everyone.

Wow, I'm impressed with everyone that's gone out in this weather and done their distances. I'll have to sign up for a few runs soon as I'm beginning feel aimless by comparison :o

Rich, I didn't see any runners on Monday but I'm sure they were out there as I did see a few cyclists (not sure why I link them together but I do :D ). I'm wondering how those runners managed not to slip on the ice when I had to walk through those sections very carefully:rolleyes: Lloyd Park is woodland so I'm guessing the spikes will help me get up some very steep inclines. I'm more worried about my tootsies freezing but I've told vaseline will help. I just hope so!

Becky, my local pavements are still very icy so had to walk in the road this morning to get to the bus stop safely. I just hope my route to Streatham Common is relatively ice free this evening  . I have a pair of compression tights that I wore yesterday and they kept my legs warm so I'll haul them out for Saturday.

Unsurprisingly my chocolate/food intake has increased this week and I've decided not to fight it, but to embrace it :j :T . I have a small meal when I get home so at least I'm not a complete pig.

Happy running everyone. I'll see you later :T

Its okay Poor - I've eaten enough sugar the past week to keep a sugar cane factory in business :D:D

I was thinknig about your desire for another warm marathon - stragely enough Stockholm might fit the bill for 2010?? Its in June and its warm (but not boiling hot) by then or of course if you are a nutter you could look at Athens...there are also a few UK ones in August each year - but there's no knowing what the weather will be like here of course :rolleyes:

Happy running anyway and I hope your toes dont get too cold

Actually, thinking about it, the fact that half the city was closed because of a little bit of snow probably speaks a little of the softness of us southerners :D
