(Oh no) I agree with Rich, Simply - the more you post the more you want to run - we love hearing about everybodies updates anyway - cant wait till we get your first race report :D
  • Thanks guys, it's still early days for me I guess but I agree with you Becky this thread is so inspiring (if not a little addictive).

I'm still working my way through the original thread and it's fascinating to read about everyone's starting points and to see the progress that has been made. It's a great motivator :T

The only thing is that my legs are cold........I think I might run in shorts as well as leggings - it was the cold legs that prevented me going any further. Cough was ok, feet we ok, but my legs were cold (and are freezing now I have stopped!!)

Ooh, missed this the first time round

Anyway, 99% of the time I just run in shorts..but if it's *proper* cold, I have my Helly Hanson "WARM" baselayer smurf-tights that I wear underneath.

Have never been cold wearing both :D

    Hello everyone

Well I went for my lunchtime run and, Becky you were right. The Tate Modern side was still covered in ice  . In fact, from Vinopolis to Tate Modern it's a little slippery but there were some council workers clearing a patch.

I went over the (St Paul's bridge) again dodging the ice and ran along the Embankment to halfway between the Hungerford and Westminster Bridges and return, walking from Tate Modern to Vinopolis then jogging back to the office. No idea how long that took as I didn't bring a watch with me, but I did enjoy the run :j

I'm not sure I'll be doing hills tomorrow night if it snows again but I know I'll feel guilty if I don't at least make an attempt to get there, plus there is a club race on Saturday at Lloyd Park, Croydon where I'll get to use my brand new spikes (no socks  ). This particular soft Southener is having second thoughts about that one too. Mind you, I ran in 0 degree temp for an hour plus back in November, at night, sticking to my marathon training so surely a little snow/ice in woodland during the daylight should be a breeze?

Did I mention I hate the cold with a passion?

Poor I thought it might get better from Tate onwards - I came from the Mi6 building at Vauxhall all the way down to millenium bridge and then gave up since Southwark bridge is half closed anyway for roadworks, but it sounds just as bad further on - oh dear! :o

I'm hoping to go out tonight in Battersea Park - I wonder what its like - hmmm

You have mentioned it several times - maybe you should get some of Idios magic smurf tights?? :p

I dont mind the cold - but when I ran in the summer I was worse than useless so I am not looking forward to training for Venice through the Summer :eek:

And no socks :eek::eek:, proper spikes :eek::eek: - you're scaring me gal!! Now that must make you a 'proper runner' :p

Sally - Did you get out for your 10 miler at 5am? That was exactly the same as my plan, but it didnt happen due to underfoot conditions!

No Rich, set alarm, got up dressed and looked out window where it didn't look too bad. ran about 5 meters where I nearly slipped on black ice so turned back home before I broke my neck. Am going to go out tonight all being well but if anything its colder out there now than it was at 5am...I hate this weather  . Just when I had started to get into a good training routine its all gone hey wire again

    Week23
    Mon2/2 Rest Day
    Tues3/2 10K 54:11 (8:45/mile) (Pulse 92)
    Weds4/2 14.0 Miles 2:02:07 (8:43/mile) (Pulse 76)

The pavements are still no-go areas as far as running is concerned, but still managed to get a half decent road run done. :D

Because the temperature was starting to really drop towards the end of the run, the black ice was starting to glisten on the roads. It wasn't really a problem but probably caused a slight shortening of stride length and explains the ridiculously low pulse! I did take it straight away as well and measured it twice, so I'll take that as a positive note!:D :D

All things considered, I'm chuffed to have got over 20 miles done over this last 2 days!

Poor - spikes? I thought they only came out in Summer?:p Glad you enjoyed the run you managed to get in anyway!:D

Sally - I'm not surprised, but just do what you can. (Oh, and don't forget to get that 5 metres down in your training diary:p ).

Becky - Hope the conditions at Battersea are favourable!:D

Some more nice running Rich :D

I'm not going out tonight now - going to have a pamper session instead in the warm since the park still looked pretty darn icy :D

    Happy running all!

10 miles done tonight although im not sure I really like shards of snow falling into my eye balls  Stupid weather but I was determined to get 10 miles under the belt even though it was SLOW....

Now question, what on earth would make my running technique change so much. Tonight I managed to really whack my left ankle bone (inside one) with my right trainer...thought on the 1st occasion ow and accident that just clipped it. But 6 times tonight I did it and it was agony and now ankle is black and blue and agony?? Now idea why suddenly its become a problem

The roads here are ok, but I haven't got out - life overtook me somewhat......namely a cat that didn't come home, and a daughter who "didn't want her to die".....cue lots of kitty calling, and searching, trying to convince DD that cats go off and explore, and can't we just get on with things....., the cat will come back when she is ready/hungry/cold. But DD wasn't having any of it so the biscuit box being rattled continued!

anyway, said cat strides in wondering what all the fuss is about, but I have yet to eat, so certainly won't be getting out this evening.

Oh the joys of parenthood
