Aww sorry to hear your knee is playing up again JJ! I hope the docs goes well for you on Monday :(

I managed a respectable 5.5 this morning - but warning to Poorbabe - dont go out on the southside - tate modern to vauxhall bridge are completely lethal - the North side of the river seems to be mostly clear but is still a bit icy where the snow has melted and re-frozen.

Geez running on compact ice is tough on the thigh muscles by the way...

    Happy running all!

Morning Becky, thanks for the warning! Fortunately I'll be running from London Bridge to, possibly, Waterloo Bridge or the other one (Charing X?) and return so I'm hoping that route is clear.

Hypno great run and I hope that included my distance too :D
Sally for President - did you get out the door this morning :T ?

Sorry to hear about the injured folk and wish you all better. Must make a note to check out a chiropracter if I'm injured in the future as I always head to a physio.

I'm looking forward to my lunchtime run and even looked enviously at the few cyclists on the road this morning

I'll report on my run later this afternoon, best do some work now :D

  • Hi all - completed my first run of the new year and no sign of any sciatic type pains! Woo hoo! Was out for about 20 mins at lunchtime with some girls from work and felt like I could have gone for another 20 (gently gently though!).

Have put my name down for the Race for Life and a 10K in May to motivate me.

And the best thing is.....? I bloody enjoyed that little run!

P.S. Hypno, in relation to the layers thing, I bought some compression style sports tops and what a difference they make. Seriously. They are well worth the money. They also help stop my belly flapping around as I run which is a confidence boost!
Almost debt-free, but certainly even with the Banks!

I often wear leggings and joggers on slow runs - but I do get cold - when me and Rich had to stop at 15.5 miles a few weeks ago - we had to get a taxi back because I was so cold straight away - opppps ;)

    :rotfl: :rotfl:
This really made me smile. I can imagine the look on the poor taxi driver's face when you got in all sweaty and steaming after your (very) long run. It must have been something like to look on the guy's face in the advert where the guy gets a taxi home for his muddy dog because he wants to keep his new car clean. :p

Weather is better here today but there is still some compacted snow on the pavements, even though the roads are clear. I will go out tonight for 6 miles or so. DS is playing basketball tonight so I'll have a window of opportunity that I fully intend to take advantage of.

My next race is the Haweswater Half Marathon on 1st March. This is a beautifully picturesque course and is where I set my 1/2 m PB (1:54.45 in 2004) so even though it is hilly, somehow I was able to pull out a good time back in the day, so I am hoping to be able to do it again this year.

I have just booked a stay for OH and myself in Wales for Valentine's Day (I know....:o ) and we are hoping to be able to get a run in on the Saturday at some point. We are hoping to run round Lake Vyrnwy, where they have a famous marathon and half-marathon route (1 lap or 2 laps round the lake). I'm really excited about it, but as much about running round the lake as the dinner and hotel treat. Does that make me sad? (Don't reply, I already know the answer......)

Evab - That chiropractor sounds good. Hope its done the trick and you're feeling fit again in the next few days!

Sally - Did you get out for your 10 miler at 5am? That was exactly the same as my plan, but it didnt happen due to underfoot conditions!

JJ - Sorry to hear about the knee. The only thing I would say is that when there is any sort of weakness in the knees avoid all steps/ladders etc as far as possible, especially immediately after a run. Climbing a flight of stairs puts more stress on the knees than doing a 10K run. When the tendons have tightened up after a run is the point when knees are most vulnerable.

BGB - Well done on your run and I hope you get plenty more of that enjoyment in the weeks to come.

Becky - Okay, so you've shown you're a toughie now, getting out in the cold icy conditions! Maybe we'll let you become a honorary northerner if you carry on like this!:p

Hehe Yep, he did have a funny look on his face - but he was pleased to see us nonetheless as he suspected it was something of a crank call. When we got back Becky had to be left in the taxi as bounty while I went to get some money - lets just say he looked very pleased when I returned, so maybe she did pong a bit!:p :p:p:o

I reckon your half marathon time now will be around 1-48 on a similar course to the Chernobyl course, so even allowing for a tougher environment I still reckon you've got a good chance of that PB!:D

    Btw You're sad!:p :p;)

    Cheeky b****r!!!

You're not sad Chick - I only look forward to going to Rich's to run up hills - dont think I've even made it to Leeds city centre yet :D:D...

You're weekend away sounds lovely - luckily its my friends birthday on 14th so I'm off away for the weekend and some dinner which is nice :D
  • Hello everybody, nice to see that you're all in high spirits today :D

I'm feeling the effects of my run on Monday and the brisk walk yesterday, my shins are aching a bit so no running for me today. Instead I'm feeding my inner geekiness!!!

I've finally got round to setting up an Exercise Log (no this calls for positive thinking it's now my Running Log) and I have entered all my running/walking to date. It soon adds up doesn't it??? :j

I've also planned ahead for February and into March based around work commitments (those that I can remember) to try and achieve steady progress. I still hope to enter a 10k at the end of March but am reluctant to sign up until I have done more outside work. :o

Apologies, I realise that my posts are all Me, Me, Me but it is really helping to post on here and I hope that as I gain experience I will have more to offer in return.
