Just popping out for the long Sunday run - it's just about perfect out, dry, cool and slightly breezy. So definitely lucky compared to those in the south today and Sammy!.:D:D

So 21 miles which should build up an appetite for something tasty for dinner......

Just noticed a new Parkrun starting on 20th June which is only 20 minutes away.....must try that one!:D

Heaton Park in Manchester - its just a few junctions on the M62 though so very convenient. And from what I know of that park it is probably flat!!!

Wiil do - back in 3 hours or so.....

Thanks krider I'd forgotten about updating my signature. I considered carrying on and completing 13 miles but decided that it wasn't worth pushing myself harder than I needed to. Plus I wanted to walk a bit to cool my legs down; although it felt good all the way round my legs still seized up as soon as I stopped and I could really feel that I'd put in some effort this morning.

I've got a rest day tomorrow and then a fartlek run on Tuesday. When are you running next?

Definitely will need to do that then - although Leeds is still my pb course so I kinda like it :D

(plus you wont get your friendly rivalry if you go to Manchester :p)

21 miles? Oooh, have fun Rich!!!

What's this about the weather in the south? The rain (and thunder) woke me up about 2.30 this morning and I did think at that point that I was in for a soaking but it had cleared up when I went out at 7.30. It's been perfect running conditions today; sunny, cloudy and not too hot :D

If you really want to do it check out the coach to 5k running thread on the beauty boards - but I will say I think only one or two of them have ever finished the program (its 8 weeks I think) and I can only think of one over there who I would call a runner now (sorry guys :o)

The point is run/walk isnt the best preparation for running any distance because your body doesnt build up enough staminia - I know you think you're not progressing but you most likely are, it doesnt happen overnight - it took me three months to get to running 3 miles and I thought of myself as fit before that

Can you get a distance that is fixed and run as much of it as you can every day and then walk the rest? I did my commute to work so I had no choice but to do it :D

Just some thoughts anyway, but everyone's different so maybe run/walk/run would work for you...

Oops - felt a bit embarrassed when I read Becky and simply's posts :o

I haven't done the walk to run programmes but it sounded good to me. I just ran as far as I could before having to stop, then played mind-games with myself "When you get to that red car you can stop" etc until I could run all the way without walking. My OH was a bit intimidated before he tackled a run, so when I saw the Walk/Run I suggested it to him.

I just spoke to him about it and he said he started it, then the counting screwed him up and knocked his rhythm out, so ended up doing his own thing....what do I know!

Sorry, next time will leave it to the experts ;)

well done on the 12m Simply - you must feel great!

Aaaw, don't be embarrassed by what you posted macgirl. :D I've not tried run/walk myself but have just taken on board what I've read on this thread. I'm still a relative newbie myself but I do know that once I had stopped running this morning it would have been hard to have got my muscles going to run again.

You're right about feeling great; I've had so much energy today and I'm sure it's because I feel good about completing my run. I've even done some baking so the house smells of chocolate chip muffins (healthy ones of course!!) Yummy!!! :D:D

You've been good, staying in bed resting Becky; Uk had better watch out when you're back up and running there'll be no stopping you. ;)

Macgirl - sorry wasnt trying embarasse anyone - run/walk/run isnt our favourite on here but some people do find it helpful - especially if they cant get over the mental thing of running...I only joined this thread once I could run a few miles because I was intimidated by everyone else - I do remember being a newbie and all the advice was overwhelming - without everyone on here I'd prob still be running 3-5 miles and be very fed up now

With running there is no right or wrong way - we just make suggestions on whats worked for us and what makes sense from the science that we know - but like all things if it works for you then its got to be good :D

(I still havent got intervals cracked yet for example and I know all the best advice to follow ;))
