I never got running this weekend so I am a wee bit disappointed in that!!
Does anyone on this thread take alcohol? I would normally take 6-7 cans of beer either a friday or saturday night depends what night I work. Although I enjoy this I want to give it up as I want to concentrate more on my running does anyone have any advice? Its not that I will give up alcohol totally I will still go out etc but i usually go out once every 2-3 months!!
Yup, lots..
Infact, the last 10k road race i went too, i went out the night before, had about 6 pints, was drunk, then had a kebab. Went to bed about 2am, awoke and started the race 20mins late.
Still finished the race as by the time i had reached the end, i had caught the walkers and the slow runners..0 -

I'm sorry that you dont agree Chick but the equality commissions job is to look at gender discrimination in ALL its forms - I'm just interested to hear what they say on the matter...
Its clearly discrimination to ban men from the event - if they said it was predominately a womens event then I wouldnt really have a problem - but banning men is indicative of a much deeper discrimnation going on which Rich has alluded to:
Bascially they are suggesting that men cannot control themselves and run non competitive races...and therefore that being non competitive is a women only thing.
We all know this is rubbish and I actually think quite demeaning to women as well - is there something wrong with Paula becuase she's ultra competitive??
I think RFL is a great way to get beginners into running - why should that opportunitity exist for women only (the mens event is only one as far as I know and is for a specific cause raher than general cancer research)??
Another of Cancer Research's argument is that 5k is too short for men - but if you look at the parkruns every week you'll see that plenty of men want to run that distance so it cant be that either...
Women had to fight hard in earlier generations to get seperate qualifying times for many races - see the Boston marathon for example - I presume you dont see this as not important so why is it okay to discriminate against men in the same way? Running is for everyone and shoud remain that way - excluding someone purely on gender is ridiculous and outdated in my opinion.

I got that, will keep in touch that way as well.
Are you hoping to do the wednesday race?
Id does seem to take a bit longer now for the road results to come out, the cross country one seem to come out the same week.Running Club5KM - 25:20(51.21%) 10KM - 53:40(50.26%)1/2 Marathon - 2.14.57(44.20%)Marathon 5:11:00 (40.78%)0 -
Unsure, in on days so unsure if manpower will allow the half day.
Im not there to win the race, just to use it as a training session with the benefit of getting 10 points for the team each time. I notice running with people made me put more effort in, otherwise id potter about at a pace which brought no shortness of breath or sweat.
Too many beers & take-aways this weekend to get under 50mins this week.0 -
Iv no chance of winning the race either just happy to get half day off work and get a good run in. I just made it in under 50 mins last week so hoping for a little bit better this time round.Running Club5KM - 25:20(51.21%) 10KM - 53:40(50.26%)1/2 Marathon - 2.14.57(44.20%)Marathon 5:11:00 (40.78%)0

How come over 50mins, i timed it as just over 47mins for me.
I started too fast, so along the back of the airfield people were coming past me. I got to the gate to come back and I think the energy bar kicked in, giving me a nice sprint at the end.
This one, ill try to start slow and overtake at the end.0 -
It was just under at 49.46 for me last week. i just tried to keep a steady pace then chased a guy down around the range but just couldnt catch him.
I kept seeing loads of people stopping for the loo, just annoyed me as they shot passed me again.Running Club5KM - 25:20(51.21%) 10KM - 53:40(50.26%)1/2 Marathon - 2.14.57(44.20%)Marathon 5:11:00 (40.78%)0 -
I did not see anyone stopping for the toilet, i was running with the girl in black shorts & top, i passed her as we went past the naffi area, and on the airfield past the b.dump she pulled up on the left. I had 3 bottles of juice on me under my shirt, so i was onto a winner in the heat.
I'll introduce myself at the end, that way you wont know who to beat..0
