  • My run this morning was ...... encouraging, enjoyable and eventful. :D

I was a little bit wary after struggling so much on my first 12 miler but am now reassured that the virus affected me more than I realised on that occasion. I set out to do a steady 10:30/mile pace and it felt good all the way round.

    So .............. 12.5 miles 02:10:46 (10:27/mile) :j:j

I saw a rabbits, horses, a fox (that crossed the road in front of me) and a few other runners. The most disturbing moment was passing an old camper van (parked up outside the yacht club) and seeing a young woman swigging out of a bottle of Kronenberg (sp?). It was only 9 o'clock!!!! Made me glad to be out running

The funniest point was getting home and my OH pointing out that I had bird poo on my forehead. I had felt something land but assumed it was a raindrop from one of the trees. :rotfl::rotfl:

    Hey they beat you ;)

Nice one ladies - wow their WAVA times must be AMAZING :D

Exactly! And, as I always say, whoever is in front of me deserves to be there!:D:D

And anyway, in true Ukevas style, I'd rather have a few runners like that to chase than a bunch of hairy men!:p;)

On the WAVA front, if they were 18 then it would be in the region of 78%. But remember that this is a tough, hilly course and WAVA is a comparison against world records on obviously fast courses - so they are probably already performing at 80%+.

  • I disagree Rich; I found a hairy man to chase this morning and it made my run all the more fun ..... until he disappeared off into the distance. Hmmm, must work on my speed. ;)

So now you know that you have the stamina to do that sort of distance on a regular basis and will be able to push on further shortly.

Its great seeing the progress you're making. Are you actually surprising yourself or taking it all in your stride?

And you got to see a whole range of wildlife into the bargain!!!;)

Back on the old thread there is a post of mine where I'd just got back from a run after being attacked with a laser guided dollop of bird excrement, a direct hit straight in the eye - and it was a runny purple one to cap it all off! I empathise with you on that one!

  • I suppose I should be grateful it wasn't purple Rich; I'm not sure what it would have done to my contact lens if it had landed in my eye :rotfl:

Thanks for the encouragement; surprisingly I'm taking it in my stride but not taking it for granted if that makes sense? I am still very cautious when tackling a new distance but I know that I'm putting in the groundwork during the week and am trying to make sure I eat properly. Like a few others on here I have put on a few lbs since starting but that's because (after years of continuous dieting) I'm making sure that I eat a balance of carbs and protein in addition to the fruit and veg.

I admit to having had a minor panic when out this morning as I was calculating the weeks until Abingdon and convincing myself that I would never be ready in time. But I've had a look at my schedule and I've still got 19 weeks to go so I'm feeling a little happier again now.

I am very, very pleased with the progress I've made - I never thought back in Feb when I joined this thread that I'd be reporting a 12 mile run. And it's all thanks to the brilliant training plan Becky prepared for me. :D:D

I HAVE to disagree there - its all down to the hard work you've put in to follow the plan :D

You should be very proud of yourself - and 19 weeks is plenty of time :D
