Beer, at the moment distance is whatever I fancy as my next race is a club 5k at Dulwich. I'm aiming to do a minimum of 10 miles on Sundays (club runs excepted as they run SO much faster than me ). When I've signed on the dotted line for the Eden Project marathon next payday (end of June) I'll be following a Runners World training programme.

My longest run this year was 13 miles which I did in 2:08 - home to Richmond Park and back as penance for missing the actual Richmond Half Marathon in May :D

PS: How long is "a while"? Covington Way never feels any easier - although 'boss' (club elder) reckons it means I'm improving!

Ah, well I may have to slink off halfway though. Haven't run further than 6 miles in absolutely ages. If the hills don't feel any easier, it may just mean you're doing them faster. If your body finds it tough, it will probably gain strength from it!

Looks like there's lots of running and planning going on here guys :D

rupe - just wanted to say well done on getting outside. I found that once I started running outside I could run further/longer; I think it's because it isn't as boring as the treadie. And the flies are a bonus aren't they??

EC - congrats on your 5K. If you haven't done one for years you must be really pleased that you completed that one comfortably? Go on - get yourself outside - you know you want to ;)

sally - I did that a few weeks ago too. I had a LSR scheduled (6 miles was long for me at that point) but couldn't resist seeing if I could get under an hour. I have to admit I wouldn't do it now because my weekly mileage is increasing steadily and my legs would get too tired. But it was fun at the time!!

It was another early one for me today - isn't the world a lovely place at 6.00 am? Cool, sunny and fresh with rabbits, birds and squirrels for company; what more could I want???

10K 01:03:26 (10:09/mile) I have a rest day tomorrow then 12 miles on Sunday - the fun starts here!! :D:D

Simply - Its great to see how well you're keeping to the plan and it is obvious from your posts that you're thoroughly enjoying it all - great stuff.:D

E.C. - Well done on the 5K landmark. You're approaching it in the right way - speed is irrelevant at this stage, just let the distance build and muscles will strengthen up to bring the speed later.

I think its going to be rather soggy this weekend but good luck for everyones upcoming weekend efforts.....

I think my garmin arrived yesterday, I had a missed parcel card thru the door, and it's the only thing I'm expecting. Have to wait til I finish work at 2 to pick it up. So I'll be trying it out tonight!! :D

Bet it's just some stupid junk mail that wouldn't fit thru the door :)

Managed a PB this morning for this course by a whopping margin of.......1 second!:p

It was actually a good bit better than that because deep puddles around the whole course resulted in your feet getting heavier as the race progressed and that does make a bit of time difference in a race like this.

So pleased enough to record a PB at all and it shows that there is more to come.:D

Hope everyone enjoys their slopping around the streets this weekend.:p:p

  • Well done on the PB Rich - it just goes to show every second counts and look what it's done to your WAVA!! :D:D

Re. your previous post. You're right I am really enjoying my training plan; it takes a lot of planning and juggling to fit it in around work, family, etc but anyone who knows me knows that I love a challenge and the rewards are endless. There is always something new to achieve; a new distance, new route, new hill to conquer and new friends to chat with on here. Friends who don't mind me nattering on about pace, rain, heat and anything else running related. :T

Talking of which, how exciting raphael - I hopethat your package is your Garmin. You'll have sooooo much fun with it.

Thanks, Simply! Indeed, every second counts.:D The parkrun WAVA will be a bit higher I would imagine when they update the website but I'm calculating all the figures on here on the same basis for the sake of comparisons.

I'm more interested in the WAVA calculation that 19:18 is the equivalent of 18:11 for a 29 year old, which is the age when I set my actual 5K PB of 16:16.....so closing in on it nicely!:D:D

And you're quite right - you'll never run out of new challenges and targets to have a go at.

I've been out in the drizzle (then rain!) this morning for my weekly long run. Pleased (and tired) to report 13.12 miles in 2:18:28 (10.33 pace). Psychologically two barriers conquered this week - 1/2 marathon distance, and over 30 miles in a week :j Fairly consistent pace over the whole distance, though the last couple of miles required simply and raph type mental chanting!

Next week is planned as a consolidation week with fewer midweek miles and dropping the long run back slightly to let things bed in after this week (as I have the time before my real half).

Total for the week = 31 miles.

Right, off to some kind of farmers market/promotion thing!

Enjoy the garmin raph - really pleased with mine too.
  • Oooh, a big WELL DONE on the 13.12 miles krider that's a great achievement and over 30 miles this week too - bonus :T:T Don't you just love this running malarkey?? ;)

OK - in the last three weeks - coinciding with me getting intentional about running - I've put on half a stone:eek:. WHat's that about?? Admittedly am ravenous all the time - because of upping the exercise so much - but seriously - is this normal?? I generally have a pretty healthy diet - we're not talking take-aways every night, put it that way:rolleyes:
