It was hard work and at one point I found myself chanting 'Failure is permanent' over and over again until I got to the top.

When I did my half there was a sign someone had made up at the side of the road that said...It only hurts because you're kicking a$$. :D

But my "climb" over ally pally is 1.1m with a lift of 271 feet in that distance. even i would consider that a "hill"... the way i see it.. if you have to lean forward ( slightly ) while running its an incline... if you feel that you have to bend you back to get up it, thats when its a hill..

I was reading Uk's post and have just had a lightbulb moment.

I've been reading on this thread about hills and inclines thinking that I was just a soft southerner girlie because my 'hills' had nowhere near the elevations that others are running and ........... I've just realised that these posts have been in feet and my data is in metres. Doh, I'm not a softie I'm just stupid. What a relief!! :o:rotfl:

If you put the route into mapmyrun you can see the elevation

Or (lazily) I look at the graph the garmin gives me, though I had to do the maths calculations for the various sections myself! :rotfl:

I find sometimes the angle required to get up a hill/incline is affected by how tired I feel... :o That doesn't really help with your distinction does it UK?

It's the Garmin graph for me too krider. I just put my head down and run when I come to a hill so I don't know what angle I'm at; I think I must have tried to flap up them this morning though as they made my arms ache more than my legs!!

Thanks for the new mantra raphael; I'll try that one next time I'm struggling :D I'm kicking a$$, I'm kicking a$$, I'm kicking a$$ :rotfl:

Just a loosener tonight to keep things ticking over and will look to do something similar tomorrow before the Parkrun on Saturday.

As for hills they get flatter as you get fitter and more moutainous when you're tired. It doesn't matter how big they are really - just getting up them will get you fitter:D. Don't believe mapmyrun and Garmin data though as it is wildly inaccurate. It has to be because of the way in which they have to strip the data of 'noise' to get it to make some sort of sense but the trade off is accuracy.

As an example, I was told there was a 9% incline around a 400m running track - I looked everywhere for it bit couldn't find it!:p

Thanks for the info guys

Was only really asking to work out what a hilly run (or reps if it was in a loop) might be in comparison to what I am doing now. And after the Lakes, they all look a lot easier than they did a few weeks back! :rotfl:

6 miles this morning....58.07 :j:j:j:j Am very happy I think I might have my running legs back :D

I won't disclose my heart rate though as it was literally jumping out my chest..Rich how on earth do you have a HR in the 60's running at 8 min miles! (well apart from the fact you are super fit and are literally dead when resting ;))
