Ha, ha KYCU I'm not balding yet - well not that I've noticed :rotfl::rotfl:I've seen some Nike dri fit running caps that are meant to be breathable but who knows? I think that I'll just stick to running early morning or evening and keep out of the sun.
Re. short runs - I've just had a look at my training programme (for the Abingdon Marathon in October) and for the first 8 weeks all my short runs are 4 miles but then the occasional 6 and 8 miles start creeping in until (omg, I've just seen that there are some 10 miles in there as well!!!!) mid August when all the short runs are over 4 miles. I suppose it depends on what you're training for and what you want to achieve.
Sorry, I can't remember (and I'm too lazy to read back) - have you got races planned?2021 MFW No.18 £9900/£10,000Mortgage at 21.07.20 £178,999 Mortgage today £150,8910 -

The after effects from Thursday's interval session were very evident this morning, not in terms of soreness but just general heaviness in the legs. It was quite strange to be running at conversational pace but unable to run any faster.:p
All in all though it was great to see the time holding up as well as it did with that kind of interval session in the legs.:D:D
The park was full of Leeds Uni students who seemed to have done an all nighter on the pop to celebrate end of exams/term or something similar - it was an utter train wreck of human youth!:p:p:p At least they were too wrecked to engage in any unkind jeering!:D:D
KYCU - There isnt a definite pattern of runs that you need to conform to, but your shorter runs wouldn't usually exceed two thirds of your long run. If your current longest run is 12 miles, for instance, you would be doing midweek runs in the range 4-8 miles.
But try to mix the distances up to add variety - I try to make sure that within any training week every session is different, although that is far easier to do on higher mileage.
Enjoy the sun everyone!!:D:D:DGt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

Simplycynical: I only have a 5k planned at the moment I am not confident on longer distances even though i can do 10k actually im not that confident on 5k either I'm sort of dreading ending up the overwieght bloke that comes in last in fact im begining to accept the fact I will be last (overwieght is a matter of opinion :rotfl:).RichOneday

Ah thats why short/long doesnt make much sense because the most I have run is just over 6 miles. I was trying to add variety in the variation of scenery rather than distance. I have this mindset that if i can run x distance I should run it everytime, bad habit i know but im trying to sort it:D
couple of questions on the 405.
Is it actually water proof?
Doesit work if you have sleeves over it (thinking of winter)
Do you wear it as a watch as well as training?
Do you need to charge it often?:staradmin5k - 00:27:46:staradmin 10k - 00:57.03:staradminHalf - 02:01:15:staradmin5M - 00:44:07:staradmin0 -
I think (hope) that the confidence will come with experience KYCU; I'd got a 10 mile run under my belt before I did the 10K race was still worried about not finishing it/coming last, etc, etc. In fact I've got a 10 mile run scheduled for tomorrow and, after having a virus this week, I'm not confident about finishing that either
What I do find helpful is reading about everyone's else's exploits on this thread; what went well, what didn't go so well and so on. I find a lot of it is very inspirational and the support and advice that is dished out helps no end. When is your 5K?
Re. the 405 - I've worn my in the rain to no ill effect, it's worked under the sleeves of my t-shirt but I haven't worn it under a jacket yet (I saw a cool top the other day that had watch holes in the sleeves), personally I wouldn't wear it as a day watch as it's a little on the large side for me and I have been charging it every couple of days to make sure that it doesn't die on me during a run.
Wow, that was a lot of chatting; hope I didn't miss anything.2021 MFW No.18 £9900/£10,000Mortgage at 21.07.20 £178,999 Mortgage today £150,8910 -
as for the 405.... if its anything like the 305... it works ok if its raining.. you can swim init as long as you where a swiming cap and place the thing in a sealed bag then place that under your cap ( so the tri-athlon people claim ) :rotfl:. i have found it works fine under what i would call normall running clothes... i dont think your going to go running in an overcoat ? but long t-shirts ETC it has no problem picking up
.
aint found the time setting on the 305 so no... :P
and it can last about 40m i find before it go's flat... ( that said i allways forget to turn it off so need charge everyday ) :PCabbage Patch 09 - 10m - 1hr 06mLeicester 09 -1/2 - 1h 26m0 -

Did you get the heart monitor with it? just wondered if its worth bothering with. My 5k is 21st June so i have time to extend my runs yet and I am doing some cross training to try and strengthen my core and tone up a bit. I dont doubt I will get round without stopping(as long as I dont go off to fast) I'm to pigheaded to walk
Goodluck on the 10m tomorrow:staradmin5k - 00:27:46:staradmin 10k - 00:57.03:staradminHalf - 02:01:15:staradmin5M - 00:44:07:staradmin0 -
I did my six miles this morning passed a dead badger a dead cat and had to swerve to avoid a live rabbit. Was v hot. Simply what style are your sunglasses! LOL
I am doing rfl tomorrow with snaggles but am not looking forward if its this hot and since I have started to do ten k I am liking short runs less and less
I will never moan about running in the cold againQuality is doing something right when no one is looking - Henry Ford

That rabbit must be hard as nails to take out a badger and cat. Oakley have a website where you can drool over what you would like.
Btw what is RFL?:staradmin5k - 00:27:46:staradmin 10k - 00:57.03:staradminHalf - 02:01:15:staradmin5M - 00:44:07:staradmin0 -
KYCU - I've got the 405CX and it came with a HRM the trouble is I keep forgetting to wear it!! I download my runs onto a Garmin site and it gives loads of useful info and I'm quite getting into monitoring my pace/heart rate etc. I think I'm getting geekie!!
sammy - well done on the run and for spotting the road kill!! The glasses are Flak Jacket - the frame is Polished Rootbeer and the lens are Gold Iridium. Can you tell I dug the box out because I din't know?? Good luck with your RFL tomorrow!
Ooh, I've got to go my OH is nagging me because we're supposed to be going out. Byeeeee2021 MFW No.18 £9900/£10,000Mortgage at 21.07.20 £178,999 Mortgage today £150,8910 -
I've decided I'm going to give in and get a Garmin
Any opinions on the 205?? It seems to do all I want (I don't want to be paying for gadgets I won't use) I just want to track my mileage, speed & time. The 205 can remember favorite routes too, which I like.
Is this one okay in the rain? I don't want it waterproof, but I've been caught out in the wet stuff before so want it to survive! The cheapest I've found it is on Amazon for £122.75
